Victoria Beckham is flogging a £550 tank top – that looks like something out of Frank Spencer’s wardrobe.
The Spice Girl turned fashion designer’s latest range would transform the wearer into a dead ringer for the hapless character from the 1970s comedy Some Mothers Do ’Ave ’Em.
But sitcom star Frank – who was always unemployed and struggling for cash – would never be able to afford the hefty price tag.
The tank top comes in two colours and buyers are told: “The Spring Summer 2022 collection is one of contrasts, as seen in easy pieces such as this V-Neck Tabard Top in Bordeaux.
“Made from a textured mouline created from a high-twist Japanese wool, clean cotton and technical polyamide, it has a lightweight, three-dimensional feel.
“A classic fit and V-neck shape give the piece a timeless feel, while contrast tipping at the hem and a ribbed neckline, armholes and hem offer a polished finish. Wear with soft tailoring to channel the season’s uncomplicated ease.”
The top is available in four sizes – XS, S, M and L.
Frank, played by Michael Crawford, was famed for his tank top and beret combo and catchphrases such as “Oooh Betty”, which he uttered to his long-suffering wife (Michele Dotrice) when he messed up.
But despite the naff look, fashionistas are snapping up tank tops as one of the must-haves of the season.
The style pages of The Times cooed it is “this season’s most unlikely yet strangely appealing trend” and “cosy yet cool”.
But fans are not convinced about the look.
One said: “If I wanted to look like Frank Spencer, and I don’t, I certainly wouldn’t be spending £550 to do so.”
Another quipped: “Be honest, if David gave you that he would be in deeeeeeeeep trouble.”
The collection also includes a reflective wrap skirt in the colour ‘scuba’, yellow-and-green checked pants, a sand-hued camisole top and a chocolate panelled maxi dress.
And for one floor-length peach dress, you’d be looking at forking out £1,390.
