Whitney Cummings' net worth as comedian set for self-financed Netflix special

Whitney Cummings has been on screens for well over a decade now, but in recent years her popularity as a stand-up comedian has skyrocketed.

Despite having her own series from 2011 to 2013 titled Whitney, her stardom rose significantly when she featured in the hit comedy series 2 Broke Girls.

Since then, she has partnered with Netflix on four separate occasions, releasing some massively popular comedy specials.

For her next stand-up routine, she has taken it upon herself to finance the project out of her own project, making it her most creatively free show to date.

Her success is also shown through her impressive net worth, with her salary bringing in tens of thousands per episode.

What is Whitney Cummings net worth?

Whitney has an estimated net worth of $30 million (£25.35) million, according to Celebritynetworth.com.

She also earned $60,000 (£50,700) per episode from 2 Broke Girls due to the series immense popularity.

The comedian co-created and produced the series, catapulting her net worth at the time.

It has put her in the position to be able to pursue other projects, just like the new Netflix specials.

Whitney Cummings: Jokes will premiere on Netflix on July 26, 2022.

Despite partnering with the platform four times before, this is the first special that she has solely self-financed.

Speaking to Variety, she said the special would have “no politics, no lecturing, no self- indulgence”.

The comedian explained: “As media is getting more and more fractured, I like the challenge of going, ‘How do I appeal to everybody?’.

“I’m still interested in what unites all of us and what we all have in common. Comedians, we’re so masochistic.

“The idea of trying to find something we can all agree on right now is probably a psychotic mission.

“But just with how acrimonious everything feels, how apocalyptic the vibe feels online, you only get the news that you want to see, you only see the opinions that you’ve signed up to follow…

“On my podcast I’m very interested in the incendiary and splitting hairs on the more flammable topics.

“But when it comes to a special, you got to sell what you promised to sell: ‘I still expect this to make me laugh.’”

Why is Whitney Cummings self-financing her new Netflix special?

Whitney explained that she made the decision to fund the project herself after “a lot of comedians that I really admire gave me the advice” to do so.

She added: “If you can pay for it yourself, make it so that you own it.’

“So at least I can sort of have a modicum of control, as the sort of seemingly weekly changes in the TV and streaming business, those vicissitudes can continue but at least I own the specials.

“So that I can put it on YouTube if I need to. Put it on Roku or Amazon or whatever the platform di jour is.

“And not be in a situation where I’m watching something I worked two years on just sort of disappear into ether.”
