Sir David Jason is one of the UK’s TV treasures and has been a part of the the lives of generations of viewers in one iteration or another – including playing DI Jack Frost.

Since beginning his career in 1965 as King Goose in the TV film of Mother Goose, he has not left our screens, playing some of comedy’s most famous characters.

When David Jason is not delighting viewers, off screen, he is dedicated to charity work, including helping protect sharks across the world as a member of the UK charity Shark Trust.

Away from the limelight, he also indulges in a secret passion – helicopters. The actor revealed in his 2013 autobiography David Jason: My Life that he is a qualified helicopter pilot.

David Jason has spoken openly about the loss of his longterm girlfriend Myfanwy Talog, who he called “the love of his life”.

Myfanwy was a famous actress who appeared in TV programmes including Ryan and Ronnie, Hawkmoor, Taff Acre and Crossroads: Kings Oak, as well as voicing Mrs Clonkers in the BFG.

The couple met in 1977 and had a relationship spanning almost two decades, but during this time, Myfanwy was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Speaking about her diagnosis, David said: “That was so hard for her to take. Neither of us had known anything like this in our lives before. It was a whole new reality to get used to.

“It was a very stressful time, a terrible, difficult emotional time.”

Myfanwy sadly died in 1995 following her diagnosis, with David going on to set up the David Jason Trust for Terminally Ill Children in her memory.

He also shared in his autobiography that her loss was similar to a story line in A Touch Of Frost, where his character’s wife dies following a long illness.

Following the tragic loss of Myfanwy Talog, David Jason met his wife Gillian Hinchcliffe.

Sir David also discovered earlier this year that he had a long-lost daughter called Abi.

Abi revealed that she began to suspect Sir David was her biological father after hearing about his time with her mother and following a paternity test, it was confirmed that the actor is her father.

Sir David Jason is not the only famous star in his family, as his older brother Arthur White starred in A Touch of Frost too.

Arthur played PC Trigg in the ITV programme, along with starring in two episodes of The Darling Buds of May with Sir David in the nineties.

Arthur’s Only Fools and Horses star brother Sir David paid tribute to Arthur when writing for The Guardian in 2013 and credited him for getting him his first acting break.

“It was Arthur who helped secure my first big break in the theatre and life came full circle when I recommended him for a part in [A Touch of] Frost – and he went on to appear in 27 episodes. It was great having him around.”

With appearances in Heartbeat, The River, The Professionals, Crossroads, As Time Goes By, Wycliffe, Family Affairs, Holby City and The Prisoner, to name a few, they are just some of the highlights in a career that spans all the way back to 1950 for Arthur.

His last credited TV roles were in The Colour of Magic and A Touch of Frost in 2008 and 2010 respectively, according to the IMDB (Internet Movie Database).

He previously appeared in Juliet Bravo, The Professionals, Keeping Up Appearances, Boon, Poirot, The Brittas Empire and James Bond blockbuster Tomorrow Never Dies.

Bruce also had a number of soap stints, including playing James Corran in Brookside, Mr Burgess in EastEnders and multiple roles in Doctors, along with most recently playing Mr Parker in BBC drama Gentleman Jack between 2019 to 2022.

However, he is most fondly known for his role as Superintendent Mullet, with the actor revealing on This Morning in 2010 that a number of alternate endings for the series were filmed.

“It’s all been kept completely under wraps,” he said at the time.

“We did a certain number of alternative endings, which eventually will see the light of day.”

However, the actor tends to keep his personal life private and not much is known about the star away from our TV screens.

That’s not all, as John has appeared in numerous stage productions including 2017’s Dial M for Murder and in recent years, has spoke about his life and career on cruises, according to Country Images Magazine.

Speaking about his career, he told the publication: “There’s something quite nice about not knowing what your next job is, where it’s going to be and who it’s going to be with.

“I know it may sound daft but I quite like that uncertainty. Since I was 17 I’ve never had a proper job.”
