He went on to appear on Penn and Teller’s magic show Fool Us.
After America’s Got Talent, Scott headlined Caesars Palace in Las Vegas for more than seven years.
Taking to Instagram to share the tragic update with fans, Scott’s wife Jenny wrote: “I lost my husband yesterday. My kids lost their father.
“He suffered a stroke while working on a cruise ship in St Kitts and did not make it home to us. We are shattered. Please hold us in your prayers.”
Jenny included a sweet picture of the family all together in the garden, with Scott among them.
Her followers and Scott’s fans soon rushed to comment on the post and share their condolences, with one writing: “Jenny, please let us know what we can do for you. This community of makers will rally around and support you. Anything you need.”
Another posted: “My sincerest condolences to you and your family, sudden losses are so hard. I lost my father the same way.”
One of Scott’s fans paid a lengthy tribute to him on the post, writing: “Jenny, my deepest condolences to you and your family.
“Both you and Scott hold a very dear place in my heart as your act was the very first professional stage hand job I had way back in 1998 at Wizards Weekend in Minneapolis, MN.
“I learned a tremendous amount from that show that allowed me to be successful with other acts. As an added bonus, you introduced me to the band Squirrel Nut Zippers when you performed the cremation illusion.
“I am absolutely devastated with this news. You and your family are in my thoughts and know that I am grieving with you,” they concluded.
One of Scott’s most famous illusions was making a woman appear out of nowhere during his first AGT audition – and the woman subsequently appeared to levitate, only supported by water.
