Dragon’s Den star Steven Bartlett has revealed that when he was growing up, money was “tight” and he would “rummage for loose change” in takeaway shops.
Steven, who’s now worlds way from his “cash-strapped” life in Manchester explained that he was also “tremendously insecure” while growing up.
“I’d rummage behind the seats in takeaway shops looking for loose change,” he told the Daily Telegraph. “I was tremendously insecure because he was the only black kid in a school of 1,500 pupils and so poor that there [were] no Christmas or birthday presents”.

The 30-year-old also shared that while money was tight, “parental failures” were also abundant.
In a bid to change his life, he enrolled on a marketing course at Manchester Metropolitan but after one lecture, he dropped out.
However, the Diary of a CEO podcaster took a liking to marketing, picking up a few marketing gigs before co-founding social media agency, Social Chain
The company went public two years ago and was valued at £200 million.
Steven now owns several companies and has released a book – called Happy Sexy Millionaire: Unexpected Truths about Fulfilment, Love and Success – detailing his rise to riches.
Forbes magazine found that the entrepreneur was worth £71 million at just 26-years-old.
His success doesn’t stop there, as his podcast, which he’s interviewed Love Island’s Molly-Mae Hague and The Masked Singer’s Davina McCall, regularly tops listener number charts and his book is a Sunday Times bestseller.
Despite keeping his private life on the down low, Steven recently opened up about getting back with his ex after their split in 2017.
However, when asked about marriage, Steven said: “I’m not bothered about marriage. If she wants to do it, fine. But for me, it doesn’t matter.”
