Speaking to Daily Star and other press about the potential of Dan going to prison, Liam explained: “He’s got to that point where it ain’t looking good but who knows?”

“I think for someone like Dan it wouldn’t do him any favours at all.

“I think he’d come out worse than when he went in because he’s not a villain.”

Liam, who has played Dan since 2011, continued: “I’ve done a bit of research into these things, I didn’t meet anybody, but I watched films and videos online of not only perpetrators of violence but also victims families and it’s just sad really.

“Nine times out of 10 the person who’s hit the other person didn’t want this. I think it’s really good we’re covering this.

“If Dan gets locked up it will change everything.

“I miss Dan’s fun side but when we’re doing stuff this good, this is brilliant.”

Dan despairs when Amelia continues to question him about his arrest and he wanders through the woods, necking a bottle of whisky until David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) finds him.

Worried that he could still face a murder charge if Lloyd dies, David struggles to talk him round.

After David helps Dan back to Dale Head, Amelia tells her dad that they need to have an honest conversation.

She’s left devastated, however, when Dan drunkenly blames his GBH charge on her social media activity.

Will Dan regret his drunken rant and if so will Amelia accept his apology?

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
