Former Corrie star rushed to hospital with mystery illness and shares emotional message

Lucy-Jo Hudson has issued a message to her fans after being rushed to hospital.

The former Coronation Street and Hollyoaks actress has revealed that she was taken to A&E needing a blood transfusion. She took to Instagram over the weekend to discuss her “strange few days” with her followers.

She started off her lengthy caption: :Well it’s been a strange few days, I’m sorry I’ve been so quiet on here but I was rushed to A&E on Thursday afternoon needing a blood transfusion/I actually ended up needing 2, my HB levels were that dangerously low! But thanks to the most amazing NHS staff at Salford Royal, I am on the mend.”

Lucy-Jo continued: “A big shout out to Robert Jackson and Freddy, both of you made me feel so at ease and you both took such good care of me on the emergency assessment unit as did your nurses. I can’t thank you all enough for looking after me. I’ll be forever grateful. I’m booked in for more tests next week to get to the bottom of all of this. I’m at home now resting and just trying to build up my energy again.

“Sending you all lots of love…. And this is not a “feel sorry for me” post, this is to make you all aware that “self care” is so important in the crazy world we all live in right now. #thankyouNHS #grateful.”

The soap star who appeared in Corrie as Katy Harris from 2002 to 2005, and later took on the role as Donna-Marie Quinn in rival soap Hollyoaks from 2018 until 2023. She left the Channel 4 soap last month after a tragic past few months for her character.

Donna-Marie had struggled to cope with her daughter Juliet Nightingale (Niamh Blackshaw) death after a terminal illness, and relapsed multiple times.

Speaking previously to Digital Spy, Luyc-Jo said: “Donna-Marie is out of control and it gets to a point where enough is enough and she decides that she needs to take herself away and do this on her own time, she can’t be pressured by others. She doesn’t want everybody around her seeing her spiral, so she wants to get help.”

Hollyoaks fans watched Lucy-Jo’s time in the soap come to an end as Donna-Marie’s storyline reached a sad conclusion. She was kicked out by Leela Lomax (Kirsty-Leigh Porter) after being unable to get on top of her drug habit, while grieving for her daughter.

Before she left the village, she promised her son Romeo Nightingale (Owen Warner) that the next time he sees her, she will be the mum he deserves, hinting that the door is always open for a possible return for Donna-Marie to Chester.
