Gino D’Acampo shares reason for turning down I’m A Celeb after winning first time around

TV chef Gino D’Acampo has shared the real reason why he is not in the current series of I’m A Celebs: All Stars! and says he didn’t want to be a “disappointment”.

Appearing on ITV’s Good Morning Britain on Tuesday (April 25), presenter Susanna Reid was quick to question the 46-year-old on whether he would be appearing as a latecomer on the new series.

But Gino was quick to shut down her speculations while sharing insight on why he refused the I’m A Celeb stint when TV bosses approached him.

Kicking off the conversation, Susanna said: “This is a great look, I just wonder whether you got that lovely tan because you’ve been to the I’m A Celebrity legends jungle.”

Gino replied: “I’ve not no, I’ve not been to the I’m A Celebrity legends jungle, no.”

Confused, Susanna said: “So you’re not one of the legends returning, you won I’m A Celebrity back in 2009!

Gino said: “I did win in 2009, they did ask me to go the South Africa one they did ask me, yeah…”

Chiming in, presenter Ed Balls said: “Go on, tell us you went!”

Gino responded: “But I didn’t go,” he added: “Because I think I won in 2009 and when you have such a great experience you don’t want to do it again because then I don’t want to be a disappointment a second time.

“So I thought you know what, I had such a great time I just want to leave my memory just the way it is.”

But when Susanna asked Gino if he was scared he wouldn’t win the All Stars spin-off, Gino appeared to agree.

Gino was 33-years-old when he first appeared on the hit ITV show and won a possible 31 stars out of 35 during the dreaded Bushtucker Trials.

But as well as talking about I’m A Celeb, Gino also discussed the alleged “feud” he has with Gordon Ramsay and Fred Sirieix and the reason why he quit their ITV road show.

Explaining the reason why he left, he said: “The main [issue] was about the dates, trying to get the dates together. We tried and then we got the date and then they got cancelled.

“And then I thought, ‘I don’t want to do this any more.’ It got too stressful.”
