Hardcore DJ Top Buzz's Jason Kaye dies aged 54 as tributes pour in for 'absolute gent'

Legandary DJ and Top Buzz star Jason Kaye has passed away aged 54.

Tributes have poured in for the the rave legend on social media following the sad news of his tragic death.

The cause of his death remains unknown.

DJ Doc Scott wrote: “Rest easy Jason Kaye, I don’t really know what to say apart from this one has really upset me, if you went to raves back in the day you were a fan of Top Buzz, including myself, it was an honour to share the stage with you, I’m truly gutted.”

A message posted on Panjabi Hit Squad’s Twitter account read: “Sad to hear about #JasonKaye. Top UKG DJ! Had the pleasure of performing with him a couple of years ago at an Asian wedding. RIP.’

While DJ Logan Sama penned: “Rest in Peace Jason Kaye He did so much for others and was an absolute gent to me.

“Responsible for so many legendary projects across multiple genres of music. Shared his platform with so many musicians to launch themselves to success. Tragic loss.”

Fans have also shared their respects for the late star on social media.

One fan penned: “What’s going on yet another gone after yesterday’s news of MC Fats Shocked and saddened at the news Jason Kaye (topbuzz) has passed I remember the times

“I spent chatting with him at events and giving each other grief about footy Absolute legend in the scene a pioneer RIP.”

A second person wrote: “I’m in absolute shock. Jason Kaye has passed away. Jesus. RIP.”

While a third person said: “Sad news hearing about the passing of Jason Kaye, legend in the game.”

Top Buzz were originally formed in 1988 Jason and MC Patrick Jarrett, otherwise known as Mad P, and DJ Mikee B.

They were one of the first to popularise the darker sounds of jungle techno as it began to emerge from the hardcore rave sounds from 1991.

The band went on to release LivinIn Darkness EP on Basement Records in 1992, which encapsulated much of the flavour of the era.

Jason went on to become a successful and influential DJ, producer and promotor of UK garage.

Mikee B became part of UK garage outfit Dreem Teem, with a slot on BBC Radio 1 until May 2005.

Patrick Jarrett studied to become a chef and known for baking cakes and donating them to local homeless shelters.
