Coronation Street star Elle Mulvaney has discussed Amy Barlow’s future in Weatherfield after her shock arrest for damaging a police car.
In recent scenes, Amy bumped into new pal Kate in the café and after recognising her from the drop in session, invited her back to No.1 for a chat. Pushing her coursework to one side, she assures Kate she’d like to help. As Amy made placards for the anti-spiking march, Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) confided in Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) how he’s worried about Amy and wished she’d put the same focus into her degree.
As Amy, Summer, Evelyn (Maurren Lipman) and Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) set off, Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan) and his cronies made some disparaging remarks. Amy lost it and went to hit Mason with her placard and a police officer ordered her to put it down. To Summer’s horror, Amy argued with the copper before picking up a can of paint and spraying it all over the officer’s car. Amy was later cuffed and arrested for criminal damage.

Speaking on ITV’s Lorraine recently about her latest storyline, Elle explained: “Amy sees herself almost as this saviour type person, she wants to stop other girls and women going through what she went though. So I think that’s why she obviously sets out on this path to basically find the people who are doing this and put a stop to it herself.”
She added: “I think Amy’s really struggled off the back of the rape and she’s really trying to find who she is now. Obviously the woman we saw before, she was really headstrong, she was really confident, really sassy. That’s the beauty of this storyline that’s coming up, we’re starting to see bits of that start to come back because for a time, Amy was just really scared and confused and lost.”

In upcoming scenes, Amy lies to Steve and mum Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford), making out the march went well and she’s off to hand in her essay. Amy assures Asha Alahan (Tanesa Gorey) that she’s learnt her lesson and she’ll look for other ways to make herself heard and is off home to do some coursework but after coming across Dylan Wilson ( Liam McCheyne), and urging him to stand up to Mason and not be a victim, a steely Amy ditches her plans for an early night.
In a nightclub, Amy watches as a guy spikes a woman’s drink. Amy charges over, knocks the drink out of her hand and leads her to the ladies’. Amy explains to the woman that she was raped by a man like Dan and she’s trying to protect other women from the same fate. The woman thanks her and leaves. But rather than leaving herself Amy approaches Dan and flirtily introduces herself, what is she up to?
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV1 and ITVX at 8pm
