ITV The Chase turns tense as super-brain player left ‘gutted’ over high offer decision

A super-brain player on The Chase was left kicking himself after he turned down an incredibly high offer on Wednesday (29 November).

Host Bradley Walsh was left a-gasp as contestant Terry astounded in the cash-builder answering ten questions correctly. Even chaser Jenny Ryan – who is best known as The Vixen on the show – was impressed as she clapped away.

After having one of the best rounds in the cash builder in the shows history, there was lots of emphasis around the high offer and The Vixen certainly didn’t disappointed. She slapped £80,000 on the table to temp the player who was also a quizzer.

Terry turned to his teammates for validation on how he should proceed, with Beth, Lindsay and Zaheer telling their co-star that they “needed him back in the final chase”. Not wanting to let anyone down, he took the middle offer.

It was clear that Terry didn’t know his own worth or as Jenny explained “didn’t back himself enough” to take on the large amount. However, it proved to be a mistake as he sailed through his questions with The Vixen trailing behind him with two clear steps between them.

After the round had concluded, Terry held his head in his hands telling Bradley: “I’m gutted, I should have gone for the £70,000,” with Bradley chirping back: “It was £80,000 actually.”

Chaser Jenny said: “I’m gutted for you, you just didn’t back yourself. You’re a good quizzer.” Terry took his seat and joined his teammates.

The Vixen wasn’t having a great day at the office with Lindsay and Zaheer also creeping through to join Terry. However, she did manage to take out Beth in the process.

Beth had scored £4,000 in the cash builder and had been advised by Terry and others to take the lower offer which was £2,000. However she explained that she “wouldn’t be able to show her face at home if she did that,” and instead went for the middle sum.

This proved to be a faux pas, with The Vixen later telling her after the round was over: “I thin you let your pride get in the way there, you should have gone for the lower option.”

The Chase airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 5pm
