Jennifer Lawrence suffered an awkward wardrobe malfunction as she was introducing a Christmas lighting display in New York City but managed to recover with a hilarious response.
The Hunger Games actress, 33, was invited to unveil the Saks Fifth Avenue and Dior “Carousel of Dreams” 2023 holiday window displays on Monday. But during her speech outside the swanky department store, the Oscar-winning actress was left in shock when her belt suddenly popped off her waist and landed on the ground next to her.
In a clip of the incident shared on Instagram, the crowd could be heard applauding before Jennifer suddenly gasped as she frantically waved her hands in front of her and then covered her mouth with them. At the same time, her belt could be seen flying off her.

Explaining to the crowd what had happened, she said: “I’m so sorry, that was so loud my belt popped off.” The crowd saw the funny side as they laughed along with her before she quickly recovered and continued on with her speech.
But the awkward moment wasn’t quite over yet, at the end of her speech Jennifer helped count down to the lighting and there was a long pause as the storefront remained in darkness while the crowd began chuckling. Eventually, things all went to plan as the stunning displays came to light.
Fans noted it’s not the first time something like this has happened to the actress. “She always gets stuck with the awkward moments,” one person commented.
While another added: “The belt wasn’t the only wardrobe malfunction. Watch for the hair extensions at the end. Poorly blended.”

Referencing the car horns that could be heard blaring in the background of the video, another person wrote: “NYC cab drivers showing about as much patience as her belt.” But Jennifer was commended for her humorous response.
One person said: “Chaotic hahahaha but Jen is too sweet n funny.” Another agreed, adding: “I love her she’s so funny.”
Despite the belt mishap, Jennifer, who has been a long-term ambassador of Dior, looked elegant for the event as she wore a chic outfit by the designer brand. The No Hard Feelings star opted for a simple but sophisticated look as she paired a white shirt with a black coat over the top which she cinched in at the waist using the belt.

She accessorised with a matching black headband that kept her long blonde locks back as well as a silver chain bracelet and a pair of diamond stud earrings. After the lighting ceremony, Jennifer posed outside the incredible display — which covered the iconic building’s 10-story facade and also featured installations in-store.
The display was made up of more than 300,000 LED lights and marks the first time Saks has exclusively collaborated with a luxury fashion brand for its annual holiday display, Women’s Wear Daily reports. The extensive festive transformation took 100 artisans 10 months to plan and involved manufacturing objects in Italy.
