Lorraine Kelly says it's 'sad' that 'damaged' Prince Harry let 'obsession' rule his life

Lorraine Kelly has branded Prince Harry “damaged” as she reflected on the “obsession” that ruined the young prince’s life.

Lorraine took the helm of her ITV show once again on Tuesday (January 10) to discuss the release of the Duke of Sussex’s new memoir, Spare.

The title hit UK bookshelves today after leaking in Spain, with various excerpts hitting the headlines.

Lorraine had one roving reporter on location at a WHSmith in Windsor – and admitted she’s already read “the whole thing”.

She said: “I’ve already read the whole thing, Richard, and I thought it’s a very sensitive but rather damaged young man.

“It’s really interesting, the mundane stuff – he said he used to actually relish going to the supermarket just to buy a pint of milk, it’s a big deal and very exciting.”

On a more sombre note, Lorraine reflected: “The obsession with the press, though. He let it rule his life and I think that’s really sad. I think he’s got to let that go and just go and enjoy his life.

“But it’s really worth the read. It’s good to read it by yourself.”

Lorraine ran a poll on the show to see how many of her viewers would read the book – with only 15% voting yes.

She said: “85% of you said no, but I reckon that’s probably because we’ve all been talking about it so much, it’s been in all the papers. You probably feel as if you’ve read it already!

“But it is very well written. The ghostwriter has done a great job.”

She later asked Princess Diana’s biographer Andrew Morton if it was the “right thing to do” for Harry to write his book “out in the open”.

Andrew replied: “Well in many respects it’s rebounded on him, because as you mentioned earlier, his popularity has plunged in Britain.

“The endless Oprah interviews, the six-hour documentary and now the book – I think there’s a degree of overkill about this young man.”

Lorraine agreed: “Yeah, maybe there’s a bit of Harry fatigue settling in, I guess.”
