Convicted paedophile Ian Watkins’ injuries are not life-threatening after he was attacked in Wakefield prison over the weekend, it has been confirmed.

He is said to have suffered stab wounds and beaten before he was eventually freed by prison officers approximately six hours later.

It is claimed that jealousy over Watkins giving guitar lessons to other inmates was the motivation behind the attack.

Witnesses said paramedics worked to save his life in an ambulance outside of the jail.

A Prison Service spokesperson told the Mirror over the weekend: “Police are investigating an incident which took place on Saturday at HMP Wakefield. We are unable to comment further while the police investigate.”
