Nicolas Cage reveals the reason why he is 'not down' to join the Star Wars Universe

Hollywood icon Nicolas Cage has revealed that he is “not down” with joining the Star Wars universe – and has revealed the reason why.

The Con Air and Face Off star, who is soon to play the iconic role of Dracula in horror comedy Renfield, most recently appeared opposite The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal in the critically-acclaimed film, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.

The two struck up a friendship off-set too, with Variety reporting that Pedro wanted to recruit Nic onto the hit Disney+ Mandalorian series, prompting questions about whether Nic would ever join a Star Wars film or series in the future.

However, speaking to Yahoo Entertainment, Nic has revealed that he does not have any plans to join Star Wars at the moment, as he is a Star Trek fan.

When asked about joining the blockbuster sci-fi franchise, Nic said: “I’m not really down.”

He continued: “I’m a Trekkie, man. I’m on the Star Trek Enterprise. That’s where I roll…I’m not in the ‘Star Wars’ family. I’m in the ‘Star Trek’ family.”

The star also gushed about the new Star Trek films, which feature Don’t Worry Darling actor Chris Pine and American Horror Story’s Zachary Quinto, in the roles of Captain Kirk and Spock.

“I thought [Chris] Pine was terrific in the movies,” said Nic.

He continued: “To me what science fiction is really all about and why it’s such an important genre is that really you can say whatever you want, however you feel.

“You put it on a different planet, you put it in a different time or in the future, and without people just jumping on you, you can really express your thoughts like Orwell or whomever in the science fiction format. And ‘Star Trek’ really embraced that.”

Nic has starred in some of the world’s biggest films, with many being referenced in 2022’s The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent – from National Treasure to The Rock and of course, Con Air.

Speaking to Daily Star on the 25th anniversary of Con Air, Director Simon West praised Nic as an icon, saying he was honoured to have his film referenced in the hit movie.

“I haven’t had a chance to watch it, but obviously I’m a huge Nic Cage fan and I watch any film that he does. He’s such an icon,” said Simon.

“I really want to see it and I’m flattered that Con Air plays a part. I’d be really hurt if it wasn’t in there actually, because you think you always want your Nic Cage film to be the one that is referenced. I’m very flattered that is in there.”
