Only Fools and Horses icon has lifesaving cancer surgery and hopes for series return

Only Fools And Horses star Patrick Murray has had a lifesaving cancer operation and hopes to be cancer free.

The actor, 66, who played Mickey Pearce in the BBC1 series has had half of his liver removed which contained a tumour.

The star hopes to be cancer free now and has one last wish for the much-loved British sitcom.

Patrick now hopes he’ll get the news that he is cancer-free at his next scan, giving him the all-clear to work again.

Plus, he has now revealed he would be up for working with Sir David Jason again for an Only Fools return.

This comes after the Del Boy star himself revealed he would be up for playing the series fave one last time.

Patrick told The Sun: “I’d love it. Getting together again and with all the cast and seeing how all the characters have developed.

“Mickey will probably have a little Mickey running around. If the quality of the script was there, I imagine the others would be up for it too.”

He played Mickey Pearce on the show

Despite the deaths of the show’s writer John Sullivan, Boycie star John Challis and Trigger actor Roger Lloyd Pack, Patrick is sure it would work.

Patrick initially discovered a new tumour on his lungs while having chemotherapy and had his operation last week.

He continued to say: “I had the same surgeon as George Best, Professor Nigel Heaton, and he was delighted with the outcome as the tumour wasn’t in a good place. So I’m eternally grateful to him.

“Amazingly, the liver will grow back in four weeks — I couldn’t believe it when he told me.”

However, Patrick said that he’s unsure if Nicholas Lyndhurst who played Rodney Trotter would make a return.

Patrick commented: “He’s had a tragic time of things, losing his son. I can’t imagine what he’s gone through. Archie was so young. And he was a good lad.”

Nicholas lost his son Archie, 19, in 2020, from an Intracerebral Haemorrhage caused by Acute Lymphoblastic Lymphoma/Leukaemia.

It was revealed last week that Nicholas would return to acting and feature in the reboot of US sitcom Frasier, after taking time off from work to grieve.
