Oscars fans were left changing channels as Jimmy Kimmel risked their ire with a series of controversial quips.
Jimmy stepped up to the plate to host the 95th Academy Awards this week (March 12), a year on from Slapgate – which saw Chris Rock get smacked in the face by Will Smith over a joke aimed at his wife Jada.
That didn’t deter Jimmy, however, as he was firing out risky jokes from the off.

From asking Seth Rogan if he’d been taking shrooms to facing off with the cast of Babylon, Jimmy didn’t hold back.
When asking the difference between a TV show and a movie, Jimmy quipped: “TV shows can’t lose $100million! Is the gang from Babylon here? They know!”
The flick made just $4.85million at the US box office in its first four-days, with Avatar: The Way of Water making an eye-watering $95.6million that same week.
It needed to make $250million before it could start making a profit after spending $80million in its production budget and similar marketing budget.
Desperate to cover up the ill-judged quip, Jimmy quickly added: “I’m just asking where they are, I’m welcoming them!”
He didn’t stop there. Jimmy also took aim at the Academy Awards themselves after the Academy failed to nominate a single woman for the Best Director category.
Jimmy joked: “How could they not nominate [James Cameron] the man who directed Avatar? What do they think he is, a woman?”
The host also couldn’t go the night without mentioning Slapgate, as he told the audience: “The Academy has a crisis team in place if anything unpredictable happens. You do what you did last year – absolutely nothing!”

Someone else ordered: “The Babylon joke will also be too soon Jimmy shut up.”
“Wow women jokes during the Oscars hahaha so funny I’m turning this off,” another viewer posted.
As a fourth fan ranted: “I turned on the Oscars to be immediately hit with a slap joke I am turning it off!”
