Page 3 legend Melinda Messenger got death threats over This Morning appearance

Melinda Messenger has revealed that she had to call the police to deal with perverted stalkers – and even received death threats over a TV appearance.

The glamour girl-turned psychotherapist, 52, was targeted by creeps who became fixated on her in her days as a pin-up.

Former Page 3 girl Mel – who shot to fame after being spotted on a billboard for a windows firm in Swindon in 1997 – told the Daily Star Sunday: “I’ve had stalkers and I’ve had to get police involved – I’ve had a bit of that.”

She added her fixated fans were luckily swiftly dealt with by officers – unlike with the recent swathe of cases that have left women fearing for their lives.

Mel said: “It was all dealt with really well, and quickly, and one of the people were found and identified, so it was resolved.

“But it’s par for the course. When you’re in the public arena you’re going to get a lot of attention of all different kinds – and some of it will be positive, and some of it will be indifferent and some of it will be not so great. So you just kind of have to roll with it and make the best of it.”

Mel also said she had a “few death threats” after she appeared on This Morning with Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby in 2013 to discuss why she wouldn’t be allowing her then-13-year-old daughter to have a HPV vaccine.

She fumed at the time she was “shocked” at the way she was treated with “anger and hostility” on the show for her views.

But Mel insisted that despite today’s accusations the show has suffered a “toxic” atmosphere behind the scenes her experience was more to do with “time pressures” during her segment.

Melinda recently completed a Master’s degree in psychotherapy and has counselled clients for eight years.

She joined Gareth Thomas on Friday for the Ben Nevis leg of his Three Peaks climb challenge for his Tackle HIV campaign.

Melinda said: “My friends living with HIV are fit, well and healthy. The reality of living with it is that it’s a very different situation now.

“The more people who feel comfortable having these conversations and the more people who feel comfortable in getting tested, the more it allows barriers to be broken down.

“I think it’s really important to know now that the treatments have just rapidly and radically changed over the years, so that people who do have HIV can live a really healthy, normal life, and that fear doesn’t need to be there in the way that it was.”

Mum-of-three Mel, who recently proudly sported grey locks in social media snaps, said she has faced “stigma” for being a pin-up.

She said: “There’s always some stigma – I think that’s inescapable really. I don’t focus on it or give it too much attention.

“Most members of the public don’t really hold those views. Most members of the public are really lovely.

“There are occasional things and there was some stuff around the vaccine because that was controversial and I did get a couple of death threats, but hey, I’m fine.”
