Rick Astley threatens to ‘choke’ BBC Breakfast star as he refuels their unusual ‘feud’

Music legend Rick Astley threatened to “choke” a BBC Breakfast star during his appearance on the morning show as he opened up on their bizarre feud.

During Monday’s (October 16) visit to the BBC studios, Jon Kay and his co-host Sally Nugent woke up the nation as they discussed the news hitting the headlines this morning. Some of the topics they talked about on the show included the ongoing developments going on in Gaza and Walt Disney’s surprise connection to a Lincolnshire village.

Later on in the programme, the presenting duo welcomed the Never Gonna Give You Up star onto the signature red sofa to promote his return to music with his new single Dippin My Feet. But things started turning tense when Sally Nugent warned her co-star Matt Taylor of his presence in the studio.

She joked: “Matt I think you’re probably quite glad to be where you are in your little studio today because one of your favourite people is here on the sofa – guess who it is.” The weatherman jokingly replied: “Am I his biggest fan?” to which the 52-year-old broadcaster quipped: “You are now! It is of course Matt, Rick Astley.”

It was at this point that the dad-of-one jokingly wrapped his hands around an invisible neck and mumbled “Grr, where is he? Where is he?” before he chuckled beside the presenters. Jon jokingly asked: “Have you forgiven him yet?” to which he earnestly replied: “Yeah, there was nothing to forgive, absolutely nothing to forgive.”

Sally then informed viewers of the chequered history the pair share on the morning show. She added: “I should explain to people watching at home, it was a while ago now that we asked Matt on air didn’t we? What do you think of Rick Astley?”

Rick chimed in with: “Yes and he just said ‘Meh'” and shrugged his shoulders and I was sitting right there but I don’t blame him, it’s all good. It’s all good.” Jon reassured the hitmaker: “He loves you now, we all love you now because you’ve had a terrific few months.”

The TV duo went on to ask about his performance at Glastonbury earlier this summer. He chuckled that after years of dropping his daughter off at the infamous summer festival he finally got to perform for the first time.

It comes after Sally “saluted” Strictly star Angela Rippon for her impressive performance on the BBC One dance competition last weekend. The broadcaster threw the show over Angela was joined by Gloria Hunniford and Julia Somerville on Rip-Off Britain as they teased a week of live shows coming up.

Before Sally moved onto the next segment, she showered the 79-year-old broadcaster with praise for her incredible routine. She said: “Angela I cannot let you go without saluting you for that magnificent Rumba on Saturday night. It was so elegant and beautiful, well done.”

Angela couldn’t help but blush at the surprising compliment, as she teased next weeks performance on the show. She said: “Thank you very much indeed! Well I’m going to be doing the Argentine Tango this week so a bit more fun.”

Sally gasped: “Oh wow, that ones all about the legs, I can’t wait for it!” as Jon asked: “Are you enjoying it Angela?” The TV icon replied: “I’m having a ball, I’m enjoying every minute of it, I really am. I’m as high as a kite.”
