So, as Robbie celebrates his 20th birthday, Daily Star takes a look at Robbie’s secret net worth and looks back at his career so far.
Animals and childhood
Robert Irwin was born on December 1, 2003 in the town of Buderim in the Australian state of Queensland. The second child of croc legend Steven and wife Terri, he soon became a rockstar as a child as he grew up amongst some of the most dangerous animals in the world.
Just one month after Robert was born, dad Steve held his son in his arms as he fed a chicken carcass to a saltwater crocodile. The incident raised eyebrows at the zoo and eventually prompted a change in the law to ensure children could not be present in zoo enclosures.
After Steve passed away, Robert began to work alongside his family in the zoo, slowly following in the footsteps of his late dad. He became more confident and at the tender age of just eight, Robert began to feed crocs himself.
Since then, Robert has become an expert in handling dangerous animals. He also continues to work at Australia Zoo, lending a hand to his family who still contribute to the running of the zoo itself.
TV career and fame
As a child, Robert was a regular in the Irwins’ many TV shows that documented the conservation work they did. As he continued to grow, Robert’s own TV career began to sprout, when he first made a cameo appearance in the 2009 film Free Willy: Escape from Pirate’s Cove.
And it seemed that there was no stopping there for Robert as he continued to make waves in nature documentaries, eventually landing himself a nomination for an International Emmy Kids Award in 2016. He also continued to work at the zoo with his family as he grew up.
In 2017, Robert made his first of many appearances on American television, becoming a regular guest on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. In total, Robert joined the show eleven times from 2017 to 2019, each with a number of different animals including tarantulas, bears, goats and snakes.
He continues to make sporadic appearances on TV, with small stints on The Kelly Clarkson Show, as well as the Aussie version of RuPaul’s Drag Race. He is also bagged for more TV fame, as he is set to present the Australian version of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.
Currently, Robert Irwin has an estimated net worth of $3million. This is down to his multiple TV projects, as well as the work he puts into the zoo, where he and his family continue to be paid.
Passion projects
Outside of his career, Robert continues to promote for environmental action, using whatever skills he has to raise awareness of climate change and animal rights. Robert is a keen photographer and uses the medium to highlight causes close to him.
He also is paid well for his photography skills, with many publications using his work. The 20-year-old is now the leading photographic contributor to the Crikey magazine, produced for visitors to Australia Zoo. Thanks to this gig, Irwin has been able to go on photography expeditions around the globe, including savannahs in Kenya and high mountains in New Zealand.
