One School of Rock star faced a tragic end after rising to fame as drummer Freddy in the hit 2003 film alongside Jack Black.
Kevin Clark was just 13 years old when he shot to fame in the comedy flick as edgy kid Freddy Jones. But acting in the film wasn’t his only role, as his co-star Rivkah Reyes even credits him for coming up with the ending.
She explained: “At one of our earlier table reads, the ending wasn’t landing. We tried one version of it where we win, we tried another version of it where we lose and that’s it, and it just wasn’t hitting.

“And the team was like ‘What do we do about this ending?’ and Kevin is just like, ‘It would be cool if we lost and then the audience started cheering School of Rock! School of Rock! and then they bring us out for an encore… So this guy at 13 years old wrote the ending of School of Rock.”
He quit acting to instead pursue a professional music career after the film, with his only other IMDb credits listed as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The 50 Greatest Comedy Films compilation.
But by the age of 32, Kevin had lost his life in a tragic car accident. In 2021, he was cycling in Avondale, Chicago, late at night when he was hit by a car, The Chicago Sun Times initially reported.
The car driver, a 20-year-old woman, was issued with several citations and refused a DUI blood test at Illinois Masonic Hospital, which resulted in an automatic license suspension.
The crash report indicated the driver “was going too fast for conditions” and was not insured to be driving the vehicle. According to Streetsblog Chicago, that same driver received a ticket earlier in the same year for running a stop sign and driving without insurance.
However, other reports claimed Kevin “died after running a red light” as he “crossed a street” at a dangerous intersection. But Streetsblog claims the actor may have been conducting the “Idaho stop” – a manoeuvre which is legal in several US states, and sees cyclists come to a stop at a red light before looking both ways and proceeding through the intersection.

At the time of Clark’s death, his co-star Jack Black was one of the first to pay tribute to the star, writing: “Devastating news. Kevin is gone. Way too soon. Beautiful soul. So many great memories. Heartbroken. Sending love to his family and the whole School of Rock community.”
While his mum Allison Clark said: “He loved music. He’s just a raw talent. He’s got a heart of gold.”
