Amanda Abbington visited by police as she’s ‘shaken’ by chilling ‘death threat’

Police visited Amanda Abbington at a theatre after a terrifying alleged death threat.

The ex-Strictly star is performing her new play When It Happens To You at the Park Theatre in North London. The 50-year-old allegedly received a threatening email warning her she would “die on stage” unless she withdrew her complaint about Giovanni Pernice.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police to the PA news agency said: “Police were called at around 4pm on Friday August 2 by a staff member at a theatre in Finsbury Park following receipt of an alleged malicious communication. There have been no arrests, inquiries are ongoing.”

It’s said police interviewed Amanda at the theatre on Friday (August 2) after bosses at the venue reported the alleged death threat to the police. They reportedly returned the following day for another interview with the actress, who has since come off of social media.

A source told the publication: “Amanda was left absolutely terrified, shaken and very disturbed by the incident. “She was hoping that, after deleting her social media, the death, rape and attack threats would subside, but this was a shock and felt very real.”

The source said the theatre where Amanda is performing is a “small intimate venue” where the audience are “within touching distance of those performing”. On Friday, Abbington revealed she fears using public transport because of the threats she’s received.

She said: “When I’m on the train and things, I do sometimes feel exposed and vulnerable, I do, because of the nature of the threats I was getting. You do feel like you’re public enemy number one for saying “I do not feel entirely happy with this”.

The star previously said the abuse – which includes death and rape threats – she’s experienced following the Strictly complaint has been “relentless”. Amanda said: “Death threats and rape threats for just standing up for something that I thought was wrong”.

Amanda was partnered with Giovanni on Strictly Come Dancing last year and left the show early – citing “medical” reasons. She’s since claimed the Italian dancer was “bullying and aggressive” towards her in rehearsals when they were paired together on the series.

Pernice, who has now left the BBC One show, has strongly denied claims of “threatening and abusive behaviour” and has vowed to clear his name. An internal investigation into the complaints is underway and he’s said to be “fully confident” that he’ll be vindicated.

Daily Star has contacted Amanda’s representatives for comment.
