Amanda Holden has shed light on the real reason behind her Heart Radio co-host Jamie Theakston’s absence from the show, and it seems Davina McCall inadvertently highlighted his health issue. Fans tuning in after the weekend were greeted by Amanda, 53, and stand-in host Jason King, better known as JK, while Jamie recovers at home post-surgery.
The 53 year old presenter informed his fans yesterday that he had a throat lesion removed following concerns raised by listeners due to his on-air coughing fits. During Monday’s show, JK, 49, updated listeners about Jamie’s condition, stating, “he’s not too good when it comes to his voice.”
Amanda further elaborated: “For the last year, Jamie sort of coughs like an old geezer in the morning, he’s been going [demonstrates noise], we’ve been going ‘get it up Jamie, get it up’.
“Sometimes it’s been on air. Anyway, Davina, who stood in for me while I was working, gave him a big cuddle and she sort of injured him slightly around the throat earlier.
“She gently… she got him in a head lock to say goodbye, she’s very affectionate, we love Davina, but it hurt him!
“So, he had to go to the doctors about it and then thankfully, because of Davina, he found that he had a little nodule on his voice box and he’s had to have it removed.”
She added: “Obviously his voice is his job, so he’s at home with his feet up with his two cats, two dogs, his loving wife, and two sons who are less loving than all of them.”
JK revealed just how unwell his radio co-host Jamie Theakston must be, saying: “We know he’s pretty poorly when he’s not at work,” with his colleague agreeing and noting: “He’ll be in his element watching Netflix documentaries.”
In a candid Instagram post, Jamie addressed his recent absence from the airwaves, expressing gratitude to his listeners: “Sooo a few of you listeners have noticed my voice hasn’t sounded right these past few weeks I’ve got you to thank.”
He continued to explain his health scare: “Got it checked Doctors found a lesion on my vocal chords which I’ve had removed this weekend thanks for all the kind messages should be back on my feet soon in the meantime,”(sic) followed by a zipped-mouth emoji.
Celeb pals were quick to offer their support, with Davina McCall sending her best: “Oh wow! ! ! ! ! Speedy recovery sweet cheeks x sending you big healing hugs.”
Amanda Holden chimed in with a heartfelt: “We will miss you tomorrow.”
The legendary Carol Vorderman also pitched in, commenting: “Rest up you. See you back at Global soon. You have great listeners btw spotting that. Wow x.”
And from the This Morning team, Sian Welby wished him a swift recovery: “Get well soon Jamie! “.
