A bar manager, who was among the first to spot a body found during the search for TV doctor Michael Mosley, has spoken out.
Michael Mosley, a 67-year-old television personality known for his appearances on The One Show and This Morning, was last seen by friends at Agios Nikolaos beach on Wednesday, 5 June before he set off for a walk towards the island’s centre.
The body, which is yet to be officially identified, was found under a fence surrounding a bar on Agia Marina beach, an area characterised by its hilly, rocky terrain that descends to the sea. Bar staff reported that helicopters had been scouring the area “every day”.

Ilias Tsavaris, 38, the manager of the Agia Marina bar, was one of the first to see the body along with journalists.
He revealed that the island’s mayor “saw something” near the bar’s fence and alerted the staff, reports OK!.
“They saw it with the boat. The mayor came and saw something so that is when they called me and said ‘Hey they saw something go and check there’,” he explained.
“They called me, they said ‘You know what we saw something from far away, can you go and check’ so I went there.”
He added: “So when I walked up I saw something like a body to make sure. You don’t see a dead body every day, it is not a warzone, it’s summer you are supposed to have fun and swimming.”
“He came from Pedi OK, and he walked not through the restaurant. If he had walked through there (the bar) we would have checked the cameras.”
He added that “rescuers had searched that area everyday with helicopters”.
The search for Michael has been intense and challenging, with teams battling against dangerous conditions and scorching heat. The operation has seen a mix of police, firefighters equipped with drones, Greek Red Cross workers, divers, a search dog, and a helicopter all joining forces in the effort.
After new CCTV footage emerged from a local residence showing the TV presenter heading towards a rugged trail around 2pm on Wednesday, Greek authorities redirected their search towards the mountainous regions.
Further footage that surfaced on Saturday seemed to capture Michael strolling casually with an umbrella close to the marina.
Dr Clare Bailey, Michael’s spouse, has expressed her determination to maintain hope amidst the agonising wait since her husband’s disappearance.
Breaking her silence, Clare stated: “It has been three days since Michael left the beach to go for a walk. The longest and most unbearable days for myself and my children.”
She continued: “The search is ongoing and our family are so incredibly grateful to the people of Symi, the Greek authorities and the British Consulate who are working tirelessly to help find Michael. We will not lose hope.”
