There were big changes to BBC Breakfast as the show’s presenters were separated.
Whilst it was regular hosts Jon Kay and Sally Nugent on duty on Monday (April 8), the former was left to work alone on the studios red sofas. Jon on the other hand was on location in Fenny Compton – the village where the Post Office scandal’s fightback began in 2009.
The inquiry into the scandal begins again on April 9, prompting Jon to meet with more than 50 affected sub-postmasters to gather their views. “Good morning Jon, good morning everyone,” Sally said as the camera switched to Warwickshire.

“Good morning to you,” responded Jon, who appeared on an identical red sofa in Fenny Compton village hall. “Today, the sub-postmasters fighting for justice. They are going to return to this village hall where their campaign for truth began 15 years ago.”
He continued: “It’s a huge week for the Post Office inquiry as it resumes in London so we’re going to be joined here live in Fenny Compton by the Post Office minister, answering the questions of sub-postmasters on this special edition of BBC Breakfast.”
Hailing the show’s dedication to coverage of the scandal, one viewer penned on X (formerly Twitter): “Very well done BBC Breakfast for keeping this disgusting miscarriage of justice in the public eye. Prosecute the real criminals #PostOfficeScandal #BBCBreakfast.”
Yesterday Jon broke his silence after a lengthy absence from the show, which saw various stand-in presenters cover for him over Easter. He has now cleared things up with a social media post that confirmed he was just enjoying some time off.
Jon told fans that he had been on holiday in Cornwall for a few days, sharing snaps on Instagram of a rock, a delicious-looking pasty, his feet clad in muddy walking boots – and a flat tyre. The star said he and his family had a blast on their trip but that they had car trouble and some rather wet weather.
“Bleddy great few days in Cornwall,” he told his fans. “After years of working there as a journalist, it’s so good just to be able to visit for family fun. Flat tyre. Rained every day. As you can see, I fell over in a muddy ditch (and then pretended it was a deliberate April Fool – nobody was fooled) but we had a lovely spring break.
“Hope you’ve been enjoying some time off, too,” added Jon, who has three children with his wife Francesca, added a string of hashtags including “#easterbreak” and “#holiday”.
