BBC Breakfast star’s awkward on-air exchange as crew forced to step in

BBC Breakfast’s Charlie Stayt was left red-faced during a live broadcast, prompting some off-camera assistance after an awkward exchange with his co-presenter.

In the (November 16) instalment of the hit morning show, Charlie and his fellow presenter Nina Warhurst were dishing out the day’s headlines when things took an unexpected turn, reports the Mirror.

Just before diving into a story, Nina playfully asked Charlie if he was on the lookout for new employment opportunities. She teased the audience: “It’s 12 minutes past 8, now if you are looking for a new job.”

She then turned to Charlie, probing further: “Are you looking for a new job?” Surprised by the question, Charlie became noticeably flustered and admitted “I wasn’t expecting that.”

Nina couldn’t hold back her giggles at Charlie’s reaction. The tension mounted as a bewildered Charlie sought backup from weatherman Simon, pleading: “Umm I don’t know, Simon help me, am I looking for a new job?”

Simon came to the rescue, reassuringly saying: “I’ve not heard Charlie so just stay right there.”

Nina carried on with the banter, stating “I’m just putting it out there, just in case you were.”

Still caught off guard, Charlie grabbed his phone, muttering: “Um should I call someone? ” It was at this juncture that the production team intervened, with an off-screen voice declaring: “Get your agent on the phone.”

This moment came hot on the heels of another toe-curling incident from the previous day’s show (November 15), where Naga Munchetty had to apologise for repeatedly interrupting a guest.

In the midst of a chat about the impact of fireworks on animals with Dr Tamzin Furtado from Liverpool University, Naga found herself battling a relentless cough.

Despite her valiant attempts to soldier on, she was forced to say sorry multiple times, resulting in her co-host Charlie Stayt stepping in to handle the questions. “I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry,” Naga spluttered amidst her coughing fits.

As they concluded the segment, Charlie thanked their guest, remarking: “Dr Tamzin Furtado, thank you so much for talking to us. Naga is going to get some water and we’re going to go to the sport now.”
