BBC Breakfast viewers were thrilled to see Emma Vardy back in action on the programme nearly a year after her last stint in the Salford studio.
Emma temporarily filled in for Nina Warhurst as the business expert last summer before going on maternity leave to welcome her little one, Jago Fionn. Not long after, Emma announced she was headed for the US as the new BBC’s LA correspondent.
However on Monday, Emma was on BBC Breakfast again, reporting from Chicago on the US Presidential election where she also covered the Democratic convention, reports Hello!
On X, Emma shared: “We’re all scrubbed up in Chicago where Kamala Harris gets her star turn at the Democratic Convention. (Tho hrs earlier I was covered in mud at a swing state demolition derby! ! )
“Watch @BBCBreakfast for the drama of the US Presidential race and some wreckage of a brutal clash!!”
Although she’s been back from her break for some time, due to her new role in the US, Emma no longer makes regular appearances on the red sofa, reports the Express.
So when she popped up again this Monday, followers were chuffed to bits. One fan gushed: “Excellent, keep up your great work……Adh mor! ” while another chimed in with a chirpy: “Looking good, Emma! “.
Emma bid her BBC Breakfast viewers goodbye in August last year as she embarked on her maternity leave. “Well that’s me off on mat leave! ! Resigned to an eternity of housewife chores and dirty laundry. Career girl out,” she declared.
“(And if u believe that you’ll believe anything [wink emoji]). Celebrated the start of this new chapter with cocktails at this perfectly disguised speakeasy! ! #TheWashhouse.”
In September, after giving birth to her baby boy with husband Aaron Adams, Emma announced that she would not be returning to the red sofa as she had accepted a new role in the US.
“We’ve certainly had our hands (and hearts) full lately, now there’s a big adventure ahead for my wee family,” wrote the journalist. “After an incredible 5 years in Northern Ireland, Jago Fionn @mr_plusone and I are off to actual Hollywood!”
Confirming her new position with the BBC, Emma continued: “Not for my acting skills but to become the BBC’s LA Correspondent…reporting on everything from the red carpet awards to the presidential election and catching a few waves.
“I’ve absolutely loved my time in Northern Ireland and it will always have a very special place in my heart. Will treasure our final weeks before we say goodbye NI [heart emoji].”
After her maternity break, Emma was back in work in January, just in time for the glitz of the Golden Globes. She announced her return with a cheeky post: “I’m BA-ACK,” alongside a glam red carpet pic.
She added, “After a glorious maternity leave, and I loved every gorgeous minute of it, mamma’s gotta get out and earn the dollar. First day as LA Correspondent and diving straight into red carpet prep for the @goldenglobes.”
BBC Breakfast is on BBC One weekdays at 6am
