A BBC 5 Live presenter has had a “terrifying” experience on the motorway after he ended up in a disastrous pile-up.
TV and radio host Nihal Arthanayake explained that when his motor collided with another car – which had previously been clipped by an HGV – his family were also in the vehicle on the M60.
The star revealed on Twitter (X) that he “clung on to that steering wheel for dear life” in an effort to keep the car steady and stop it smashing into the central reservation.

Arthanayake, along with his family, managed to escape unscathed from the crash site, and no one else was hurt in the event that happened around 7pm the previous day.
The post included a photo showcasing the rear left wing of Arthanayake’s car hanging off, with a substantial dent just above the wheel arch. June Sarpong, poet and podcast host, Labour MP Dawn Butler, and TV history buff David Olusoga were among the big names wishing the host well after the incident, reports the Mirror.
Arthanayake took to Twitter on Tuesday night to share a snap of his mangled motor. The caption read: “Two hours ago a lorry hit a car which hit me on the M60. I clung onto that steering wheel for dear life to try and keep the car steady and not hit the central reservation. Wife next to me and son in the back. Terrifying.”
One of the radio legend’s fans raised a concern: “Glad you’re all ok. Obviously no idea about how or why this happened but the impact on everyone, even the lorry driver could be huge. The difference being the lorry driver will be expected to just crack on with the job. Maybe something for a show? ? ? ” To which the thankful Arthanayake responded: “That is a really good point. Spoke to the recovery driver about this.”
In other news, last month it was revealed that he will bid farewell to his daytime gig on BBC Radio 5 Live and take over a new Sunday evening interview slot on the station, alongside launching an extended podcast.
