BGT winner ‘sealed’ as Simon Cowell shares early prediction for ‘amazing’ act

The winner of Britain’s Got Talent might just have been “sealed” already.

Simon Cowell couldn’t help but drop an early winner prediction for a mind-blowing act in the first episode of the new series on Saturday (April 20).

Music teacher Mike Woodham wowed the judges with his spot-on impersonations of famous singers including James Blunt, Ronan Keating, Gabrielle, Macy Gray, Anastacia, and Heather Smalls.

After Mike’s stunning performance, Simon, alongside fellow judges Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and Bruno Tonioli, were on their feet along with the audience, giving him a standing ovation.

Ant McPartlin was thrilled, telling everyone: “Everybody is on their feet, the crowd love him, the judges love him.” Simon showed his approval with two thumbs up as Mike took in the overwhelming response from the stage.

Bruno kicked off the feedback, exclaiming: “You should be proud! These are the best vocal impressions I’ve heard in a very long time.” Amanda was next, saying: “I just loved it, what a talent,” and continued with praise, “Just amazing, you’re a really good singer. I’m so happy for you because I was so surprised. I’m gobsmacked, I’ve never seen anything like it, you’re super talented.”

Alesha shared her excitement too: “You’re standing up there doing female vocalists, what a talent, I’m glad you entered the show this year..” And Simon, clearly impressed, added: “I’m so surprised because you really undersold yourself.”

Mike wowed the judges with his spot-on impersonations of famous singers including James Blunt, Ronan Keating, Gabrielle, Macy Gray, Anastacia, and Heather Smalls.

The singer, who had some experience performing to crowds but nothing on the scale of Britain’s Got Talent, was told by one of the judges: “I would say going forward, really start believing in yourself because, you’re the kind of act who, honestly I really believe, could win this whole show, seriously.”

Mike, visibly overwhelmed by the praise, shook his head in disbelief as the audience erupted in support. Without a moment’s delay, the four judges unanimously sent the gifted performer to the next stage of the competition.

Also receiving the judges’ nod in tonight’s episode were Rask AI, a vocal ensemble that transformed the judges into characters from The Greatest Showman using AI, and the cheer squad Lady Grenades.

At the Britain’s Got Talent launch event on Tuesday, Simon was quizzed about the potential of AI taking over the judging duties. Amanda couldn’t resist quipping: “It’ll probably be cheaper.” Bruno voiced his concern humorously: “Don’t give him an idea, thank God I’ve got the American deal.”

Simon, while not directly addressing the query, expressed his astonishment at the AI performance: “It’s another example of somebody doing something different because, again, we had no idea what was going on.” “We just saw these four people come out and then there were cameras and we just looked up and were like, ‘Oh My God, it’s us’.”
