Celebs Go Dating star Anna Williamson has urged singleton Brits to find love on public transport this cuffing season.

In a sentiment that seems like something pulled from a Netflix Christmas film, the dating expert and presenter, 43, has teamed up with train service Thameslink to encourage people to put down the apps and seek face-to-face human connection.

Anna is a firm believer in a love and is a master in coaching people on how to find it. But, she’s realised that one of the barriers to getting into a relationship is quite literally to go through one.

Gone are the days of scouring the bar for someone to pull and discouraged are the times of endlessly swiping from left to right, as going through a literal barrier is apparently the newest, and most bizarre, location to try your luck at love.

Well, at least it might liven up the morning commute…

Working alongside Thameslink and It’s a Date for the ‘track down love’ campaign, Anna sat down exclusively with Daily Star and told us: “Getting out and about for face-to-face dating has very much had an uptick in popularity.

“Online dating is great – I think online dating is more of a meeting platform rather than a dating platform.

“I think it’s a great way to meet people, but it should never be and can never be replaced, in my humble opinion, for face to face dating and this is why I’m so pro Thameslink and It’s A Date because the speed dating events are so popular and they are so enjoyed by people.

“It’s just everything right in the world of dating – seeing good people, meeting great people enjoying themselves, working on their conversation skills.

“And this is why, I think it’s absolutely brilliant and it’s genius how Thameslink have cottoned on to the fact to utilize your local train journey, get yourself doled up, it’s really simple to travel around.

“Don’t be tempted just to sit indoors and do nothing as so many of us do within the winter months because proof’s in the pudding when we get out and about, we meet people, and it’s relatively easy to do we all benefit.

“Some very strong connections can be made and I’ve seen this through doing this campaign together, with them.”

The campaign fronted by Anna hopes to encourage singletons to ditch the dating apps and meet like-minded people in person in the time of year many are desperate to find love.

This comes at a time where people, particularly Gen Z, are turning away from dating apps as they are desperate to meet people away from swiping into an endless void.

Last year alone, Tinder’s paying customers fell by 8% and Match Group – that has the largest dating app portfolio including Tinder and Hinge – saw their stock plummet by 68% in 2023.

While plucking up the courage to start a conversation on a carriage might seem something archaic in a time where most would rather bury their heads in their phones, maybe we will be hearing of more public transport meet-cutes in the near future.

You never know who you’ll meet on the Thameslink!

Anna concluded: “In a world that can be quite negative and challenging, particularly in an online world, online is great, but we need to be really careful that we don’t tip the balance into too much digital and actually really recognise the importance of physical connection with a human being.

“And many people in fact, I think one of the number one life goals for Gen Z is to meet a life partner.

“Commitment is really important to people and I always say, sure, you might meet someone online and that’s great. It has a great presence. It’s safe, from a proximity point of view and cost effective.

“But, if you’re getting to know someone and that trust is starting to build and that rapport and that chemistry is starting to get offline, get on your Thameslink and actually go and see them in the flesh.”
