Christine McGuinness breaks down in tears as she makes fear of death admission

An emotional Christine McGuinness has broken down in tears at the prospect of leaving her children behind.

The 36-year old shares three kids – all of whom have been diagnosed with autism – with her TV presenter ex, Paddy McGuinness. The pair split in July 2022 after months of speculation about their relationship, but continue to live together and co-parent the trio.

Now, as part of a BBC Two’s Pilgrimage series, the former Real Housewives of Cheshire star has embarked on a 137-mile trek across Wales in which she opened up about her biggest fear. Sharing a preview clip of the show, Christine took to her Instagram account and soon became emotional.

Sat beside a female vicar, she wiped tears from her eyes as they overlooked a church in the North Wales’ valleys.

“I just don’t know what I’d do without my kids. I don’t know what I’d do without my babies,” Christine admitted. “I just wanted to come back and look at the church again and really appreciate it, because I don’t enjoy the feeling of death. As a mum it absolutely petrifies me.

“My biggest fear is leaving my children one day. My children are considered different because they’re all autistic and so am I and I have often had comments like, ‘I bet you wish there was a cure or something to fix your children’, and I really don’t.”

She continued: “I think every single child is a miracle. it just makes me want to be around forever because they’re so magical. It is my purpose in life and I know I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t have my children. I also don’t know what they’d do without me, it scares me, it really does.”

Scores of fans were quick to sympathise with Christine, who said they face similar challenges too. One gushed: “Oh my heart. So many mothers will completely feel every single word you’ve said.” Another agreed: “Nothing worse than the thought of leaving our autistic children behind. To fend for themselves. Scariest thought in the world. I’m not scared of death. But I’m scared s***less of my daughters being alone without there mom or dad!”

A third penned: “Everyday I don’t know how may time I must think about this either me dying and leaving them or something bad happening to them. The feeling is that intense sometimes it’s like something has happened it’s awful to feel like that I think who would take care of them like I do.” And a fourth said “You’ve done amazing on opening up about your fears and concerns how your kids will be. Christine you def have become an inspiration to so many dealing with the same thing.”

Other celebrities taking part in the current Pilgrimage series are comedian and actor Eshaan Akbar, Made In Chelsea’s Spencer Matthews, actor Tom Rosenthal, Escape to the Country’s Sonali Shah, and wildlife presenter Michaela Strachan.

Pilgrimage: The Road Through North Wales continues on Friday at 9pm on BBC Two.
