Coronation Street fans were totally gobsmacked as Lily Platt made an unexpected apperance in the latest trip to the cobbles, asking her uncle Nick Tilsley for a footie game in the backyard.
Viewers of the ITV1 soap will know that Lily (played by Brooke Malonie) is the 10-year-old offspring of David (Jack P. Shepherd) and Kylie Platt (Paula Lane), and the step-sibling of Max Turner (Paddy Bever).
Back when Lily arrived in the world, Kylie wasn’t sure who the daddy was her husband David or his brother Nick (Ben Price) but a DNA test soon cleared it up, proving she’s David’s lass for sure.
Tragically, Lily had to say goodbye to her mum Kylie before she even hit three, after she got knifed by Clayton Hibbs. Nowadays, Lily lives at No. 8 on the Street with her dad, brother Max, and granny Gail. David’s hitched to Shona Platt now, who’s stepped into the mum role for little Lily, reports the Manchester Evening News.
During Monday’s (August 19) show, fans were fair flabbergasted to see young Lily pop up in the kitchen scene alongside her dad and Shona, egging on Nick for a game of footy.
On X, what we all used to know as Twitter, one viewer posted: “When did Lily get so tall? She’ll be towering over David next year.” While another chimed in with: “Good god! Lily Platt has returned as a giant! “.
A third person gushed: “Didn’t recognise Lily for a minute then. WOW she’s shot up.” Meanwhile, a fourth added: “Wow, Lily Platt appears to have grown up and got a growth spurt very quickly since she was last seen. she’s at that age i guess.”
Lily was initially portrayed by double act Ava and Lilly Bushell from her August 2013 arrival till they bowed out in August 2014. Betsie and Emmie Taylor took over the baton and played Lily from September 2014 through to May 2016. Since June 2016, Brooke has stepped into Lily’s shoes and continues to star as the growing teen.
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
