Corrie fans fume ‘it’s not right’ as they spot huge blunder in Toyah baby storyline

Coronation Street fans have been left up in arms over Toyah Habeeb’s current storyline, fuming: “It’s not right.”

This week, viewers discovered Toyah had fallen pregnant with her rapist’s baby back in the early 2000s, and hidden the pregnancy from her friends and family. Sadly her baby, who she named Rose, was born premature and didn’t survive – leading Toyah to bury her in the local park.

With the public threatening to dig up the park looking for Lauren Bolton’s body after seeing Roy Cropper walking his dog there, Toyah was ready to hand herself in to the police, but was stopped by Nick Tilsley. Instead she went to lay flowers over the plot where she buried Rose.

But fans have pointed out a huge error in the storyline after looking back at Toyah’s behaviour when she would have been pregnant and after she lost the baby at around 26 weeks. Taking to X, some pointed out that Toyah likely wouldn’t have even known how many weeks pregnant she was, having not seen a doctor while she was pregnant.

Another said that after being raped by Phil Simmonds, Toyah took the morning after pill – though it’s only 95% effective, leaving room for error. More still were analysing Toyah’s past behaviour, with user AJ writing: “So we now know apparently six months on from Toyah’s assault in April 2001, she gave birth to a child and buried it. Or did she? Let’s revisit her scenes, shall we?”

What followed was a lengthy thread showing Toyah interacting with her fellow residents at the time – looking nowhere near 23 weeks pregnant by September that year. Toyah, in a tight-fitting top, was completely flat-stomached, and didn’t seem to be suffering any pregnancy symptoms.

In a scene which occurred just after she would have either buried the baby or about to go into labour, Toyah chatted with pals and drank orange juice at the Rovers, looking completely unfazed. While just after, she joked around with parents Les and Janice – with viewers pointing out she was either very good at hiding her trauma or writers had quickly come up with the new baby plot.

AJ concluded with: “ Coronation Street writers have told us a few porkies in the past, but this one is provably false. I’m stunned such a huge retcon has made it to air, and I’m disappointed the actors involved appear to have not objected to it.

“If #Corrie want to treat its viewers like fools, they can expect a few less of them. This story is insulting, not to mention in poor taste. Complaints will come I’m sure of it, and they deserve every one of them,” they fumed.

It’s entirely possible Toyah had a cryptic pregnancy, displaying zero symptoms until she went into labour, and was desperate to hide her trauma under a cheerful façade. But viewers aren’t convinced – and they wish the storyline had never aired in the first place.
