Corrie’s Catherine Tyldesley ‘heartbroken’ as she pulls out of show with health woes

Catherine Tyldesley has been left “heartbroken” after health woes forced her to pull out of the first night of her stage show.

The actress, who previously starred in Coronation Street, has been wowing audiences as Blanche Barrow in the musical Bonnie and Clyde. But she had to miss the opening night in Woking due to a sudden migraine.

Taking to Instagram, she shared her disappointment: “Due to visually impaired migraine striking moments before curtain up I am gutted to not be performing tonight. But rest assured the incredible @oonagh111 will be absolutely brilliant as Blanche.”

She continued, expressing her sorrow at missing the big night: “Heartbroken to not be doing opening night here in Woking but it’s never about watching me bump into things/people on stage. Off to rest! Enjoy the show folks.”

Her understudy Oonagh took over the reins for the evening, allowing Catherine to rest up and recover to return to the stage for future performances. Showing her support, she reposted Catherine’s message with the caption: “You gorgeous woman.”

Earlier that day, Catherine had teased fans with a snapshot in her Blanche costume, all set for the performance. She’s previously spoken about her love for musicals and how any project would have to be special to take her away from her kids for an extended period, reports the Mirror.

Following hearing Blanche’s sensational number That’s What You Call A Dream, Catherine felt it was just the right moment to make her musical first appearance. Expressing her husband’s reaction, she shared: “Me and my husband [Tom Pitfield] got one verse in and he looked at me and went ‘oh my god, you have to do this show.”

In addition to this, Catherine expressed gratitude towards her hubby for handling things smoothly at home while she’s touring nationwide for the musical’s performances. Posting a lovely photo of herself holding her little daughter, she captioned it: “Baby Girl met momma at the train station and it was EVERYTHING.”

She went on to say: “My family picked me up in Leeds because Manchester was another hour on the train and another hour apart… clinging on to every single second of these fleeting weekends. My heart is replenished for another week. Another shout out to my beautiful husband for being the most incredible daddy and holding the fort. And to my beautiful son Alfie who is the best big brother in the world. We’ve got this team.”

Alongside him, Alex James-Hatton, renowned from Heathers and Newsies, has been splitting the role of Clyde Barrow throughout the tour. The tour kicked off at Leicester Curve in February and has since made its way to Dartford, Wolverhampton, Norwich, Manchester, Cardiff, Southampton, Aberdeen, Glasgow, and Woking.
