EastEnders Mick Carter’s return ‘sealed’ as theory proves he ‘survived’ cliff plunge

EastEnders fans were left devastated in December 2022 when Mick Carter seemingly plunged to his death – but now there’s a huge clue that could ‘prove’ he’s still alive.

Mick leaped off a cliff into the ocean to save Linda and Janine from a sinking car. After dragging Janine to safety, it looked like Mick would survive – but soon after he waded back into the ocean to retrieve Linda, unaware she’d already swam safely to shore herself.

Viewers didn’t see Mick emerge from the ocean, and later Linda was handed his death certificate. But his body was never found, and fans are sure it means Danny Dyer’s character has survived. And according to Google’s AI tool Gemini, it’s entirely possible Mick could have survived.

Daily Star asked the artificial intelligence tool just how Mick might have survived, and Gemini told us: “Although unlikely, the writers could have shown Mick resurfacing unconscious and being swept away by the current. He might then be discovered and rescued by a passing boat or coastguard.

“A more dramatic twist could involve Mick faking his own death. He might have been working with someone or had a reason to disappear completely, leaving a note or clue that hinted at his plan,” it added.

Even more likely is an amnesia plot, which could see Mick survive but with a major head injury which means he lost his memory. Gemini said: “After hitting his head during the fall, Mick could have suffered amnesia and wandered off, eventually ending up in a hospital with no identification. The story could then focus on him regaining his memory and reuniting with his family.

“The writers could have revealed a hidden cove or cave near the cliff face. Mick, injured but alive, might have found refuge there and eventually emerged when he recovered enough to seek help.”

Gemini also had some tips for surviving drowning in general – and as Mick was a strong swimmer, it seems likely he could have got himself to safety. It said: “Stay calm. This is the most important step. Panicking will make it harder to breathe and use your energy effectively.

“If you can’t swim, focus on staying afloat. Lean back in the water, tilt your head back with your ears submerged, and try to relax your body. If you know how to tread water, use this technique to stay afloat and conserve energy.

“Raise your arms and wave them to attract attention. Shout for help if you have the energy. Try to find something to hold onto that can help you stay afloat, like a life jacket, a pool noodle, or a piece of debris.”
