Emmerdale viewers were taken aback on Thursday night (August 29) as Arthur Thomas made a surprise return to the village.
Arthur (played by Alfie Clarke) has been off travelling in Australia and has missed his mum Laurel’s (Charlotte Bellamy) dramatic split from Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson).
Jai and Laurel are heading for divorce just months after their wedding, following Laurel’s shock at her husband’s actions, which included forcing biological father Amit (Anil Goutam) to leave the village and cutting Suni Sharma (Brahmdeo Shannon Ramana), out of any ownership of the HOP, signing over all the shares to himself.
Arthur was last seen in March when his mate Heath Hope (Sebastian Dowling) tragically died in a car crash. But now he’s back in Mulberry and immediately found himself in an awkward situation when he walked in on new couple Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) and Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson).
But there’s more drama to come as Arthur gets up to speed with his family’s latest dramas, and doesn’t hold back when it comes to telling former stepdad Jai what he thinks about the stress the divorce is causing his mum Laurel, reports the Express.
As Laurel caught up with her son, she suddenly felt faint, leading Arthur to fear she was having another heart attack. She quickly reassured him that it was part of her recovery process, but the teenager was quick to blame his mum’s ill health on her estranged husband in a confrontation with Jai.
Arthur’s dramatic comeback on ITV’s Emmerdale has viewers in a tizzy, with many claiming the lad looks way older now. One fan took to social media, posting: “Arthur is ten years older than when he left. #emmerdale.”
Another chimed in with: “Arthur, looks so different #Emmerdale.” Yet another added their two pence: “Arthur’s returned from his holibobs and suddenly thinks he’s a hardman Love it #Emmerdale.”
“Is this a new Arthur, or is it just the fringe? #Emmerdale”, one asked, scratching their head. And another was just as puzzled, echoing the sentiment: “Why does Arthur look different #emmerdale?”
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
