Emmerdale fans ‘work out’ how Matty Barton will be released after Samson Dingle stabbing

Emmerdale viewers were left gobsmacked as Matty Barton was nicked for stabbing Samson Dingle in a shocking twist.

However, fans reckon they’ve spotted a clue that could prove Matty’s innocence. In the latest episode of the ITV soap on Thursday night (June 6), audiences saw Samson and his mate Josh hanging out at The Hide.

It’s been obvious in recent episodes that Josh has taken a liking to Amy Wyatt and hasn’t stopped flirting with her, despite knowing she’s off the market. Josh was introduced to Matty but unbeknownst to everyone else, he later labelled Matty a “freak” after finding out he’d transitioned from a woman.

As he continued openly flirting with Amy, Samson was clearly uncomfortable with the situation and tried to get his new friend to knock it off. However, once Amy had left, Josh turned his attention to Matty and continued to taunt him until he finally snapped.

After pouring away their beers, Matty told them both to do one, which riled up Josh. Once outside, Josh made it clear he wasn’t done yet, telling Samson they were owed their drinks.

Matty Barton’s day took a dark turn in the cafe when Josh refused to leave without his drink, despite Matty insisting he’d closed up shop. Things got nasty as Josh hurled transphobic slurs at Matty, and with Samson egging him on, Matty warned them off, threatening to ring the police.

The situation turned dire when Josh misgendered Matty and, as Matty tried to shut down the cafe, wielding a chopping board and knife, Josh’s rage boiled over. He shoved Samson into Matty, sending him stumbling into the blade, blood gushing out.

Jai Sharma, the boss of Hide, was gobsmacked to find the bloody mess upon his return, while Josh frantically dialled for an ambulance. Jai didn’t hesitate to point the finger at Matty, who was in shock, swearing it was all a terrible mishap.

Meanwhile, Samson was whisked away in an ambulance, and Amy and Moira Dingle could only watch as Matty was nicked and carted off by the coppers. But Emmerdale viewers are crossing their fingers that CCTV footage will pop up to clear Matty’s name. One fan tweeted: “Surely there’s CCTV! “

He ended up really hurt

A second chimed in: “You’d like to think so.” While a third added: “I was thinking exactly the same thing.”

Another highlighted a plot hole, tweeting: “I’m sure they had internal and external CCTV when Ben was killed there by Meena as it was part of the storyline.” One more stated with a similar observation: “They have cctv because didn’t meena take the footage when she killed someone from inside there?”

Emmerdale airs on weeknights from 7.30pm on ITV1 or catch up on ITVX. Want all the biggest Showbiz and TV news straight to your inbox? Sign up for our free Daily Star Showbiz newsletter.
