‘Fever dream’ Netflix series is so wild fans question if they are ‘hallucinating’

Netflix fans are comparing one epic new series to a “fever dream”.

The streaming platform recently released Exploding Kittens and viewers can’t believe their eyes. The official Netflix description reads: “It’s the ultimate fight between good and evil when God and his nemesis, the spawn of Satan, are sent to Earth to live with humans – as talking cats.”

Exploding Kittens was released on 12 July and streamers immediately flocked to social media to report their thoughts. Over on X/Twitter, one baffled fan wrote: “Is this fever causing me to have vivid hallucinations or did Netflix do an animated comedy based on the Exploding Kittens game, of all things[?]”

“The plot feels like a fever dream but it looks fun,” added another Netflix user while one person said: “Seriously, Exploding Kittens on Netflix got me cracking [laughing emoji].” Someone else typed: “Exploding Kittens on Netflix is OUTSTANDING! Just in case you were wondering.”

Exploding Kittens was released on 12 July

“Exploding Kittens on Netflix is amazing. This is definitely not the canned margaritas talking,” gushed another streaming fan. However, many people were nervous as they begged for the show to be renewed for another season.

The show follows God and Satan in the bodies of two cats

Netflix has been known to abruptly axe popular shows and new fans of the animated series are clearly nervous as to what the future holds for Exploding Kittens. One person wrote: “So nice for Netflix to actually put effort and advertising into animation…I SWEAR TO CAT GOD IF THIS GETS CANCELLED AFTER 1 SEASON I WILL CRY.”

The show is an adult animated comedy series based on the hugely popular card game of the same name. Exploding Kittens features the voices of Tom Ellis, Sasheer Zamata, Suzy Nakamura, Mark Proksch, Ally Maki, Kenny Yates, Betsy Sodaro and Tom Kenny.

The bizarre series is based on a card game

The series, described as a “black fantasy,” was released 12 July and produced by Chomp City, Bandera Entertainment and Chernin Entertainment. The card game began on Kickstarter way back in 2015 as the creators attempted to source $10,000 to help get the ball rolling.

Amazingly, they surpassed their goal within a mere eight minutes and Exploding Kittens had a whopping 103,000 people backing the project. The game currently holds the record for most backers in Kickstarter history.
