Gladiators set in chaos as audience member gives birth and medics rush to help

A woman went into labour on the set of the Gladiators reboot.

Her waters broke while she was watching an episode being filmed at the show’s new home, the Utilita Arena in Sheffield. Frantic staff had to draft in medics to help her give birth in front of shocked onlookers.

Host Barney Walsh said: “There was a lady whose waters broke during a show. She gave birth in the audience. We had a Gladiator baby.”

The incident made filming memorable for Barney, who is presenting the show alongside his dad Bradley Walsh. It’s his biggest TV job yet after years of acting roles in shows including The Larkins and Casualty.

And there were 3,500 fans in the audience cheering him on in his new position as host. The 26-year-old said: “I didn’t expect the atmosphere to be the way it was. Coming out on to the stage is a vivid memory for me.

“You’ve got everyone around you in that big round arena, all the lights going off, all the cannons, and everyone screaming and cheering – that was spectacular. The arena was electric, it was alive, and everyone could really feel that.”

The reboot has a raft of new Gladiators including Viper, Steel and Phantom. 16 Gladiators will appear in total and the full line-up – and their impressive costumes – has already been unveiled.

They were seen together for the first time against a pink and blue blackdrop, and it’s safe to say all of them looked absolutely ripped and ready to rumble. The cast were seen flexing their muscles and showing off their toned physique in their skintight costumes.
