Gogglebox star George Gilbey tragically died in March after falling from a warehouse roof skylight. Now, his family have shared their plans for his final resting place
Gogglebox star Linda McGarry is in deep mourning following the heartbreaking death of her son George Gilbey. The telly favourite, aged 74, has revealed touching plans to lay her son to rest in a special place.
George tragically passed away at 40 after a horrific fall from a warehouse roof skylight while on the job this March. The family is absolutely devastated by the tragedy and struggling to come to terms with their loss.
Linda opened up about taking George’s daughter Amelie, alongside his ex-partner Gemma Conway, to Lanzarote for a healing trip over the summer. They found peace on the island and now aim to scatter George’s ashes there as a tribute.
“It was perfect for Amelie,” Linda told the Mirror. “We went a whole week without crying in front of her. I promised her that [Lanzarote] is going to be our special place. It was absolutely wonderful.”
Little Amelie, just eight years old and spending one weekend a month with Linda, has a ‘fairy room’ at her nan’s house decked out with her dad’s belongings to feel his presence, reports Birmingham Live.
In a tear-jerking note to Santa, Amelie said she’d trade all her Christmas gifts just to get her “daddy back”. George’s death follows three years after the loss of his stepdad Pete McGarry, who died at 71 from bowel cancer.
George became a beloved figure on Gogglebox with his mum Linda and Pete, shooting to fame when they joined the hit Channel 4 series in its second season back in 2013.
However, the Essex clan’s time on the show was brief and they left in 2014, making way for George’s stint on Celebrity Big Brother later that year. Cementing their popularity, George, Linda, and Pete made a triumphant return to Gogglebox in 2016.
