Singer Selena Gomez was ecstatic to announce her engagement to her boyfriend, but Gordon Ramsay’s response to the adorable declaration has left fans scratching their heads
Gordon Ramsay appeared to shade Selena Gomez as she announced her engagement to Benny Blanco.
The Hell’s Kitchen star, 58, was one of many to congratulate the former Disney Channel star after she posted a snap of her engagement ring to her social media. Fans were thrilled to see Selena – who was recently forced to apologise for comments made about P Diddy – announce her engagement to producer Benny, after months of speculation.
Selena’s post, which garnered 13million likes on Instagram, also had a host of famous faces wish the couple well as they embark on a new chapter of their lives together. This included the likes of Lil Nas X, Taylor Swift and Gwyneth Paltrow all wishing her well.

Among the others who congratulated the happy couple was Gordon Ramsay, who is known for his foul mouth and short temper. However, he left his nasty persona behind as he beamed with smiles for the happy couple, penning in the comments section: “Congratulations to you both, it must be the cooking,” followed by three red heart emojis.
Fans have since raised their eyebrows at the bizarre comment made by the Michelin Star chef, with many sharing their thoughts on his remarks on social media. One user took a screenshot of Selena’s ring, with Gordon’s comments showing up underneath and wrote in the caption: “Gordon Ramsay shady af; he said ‘It’s not the face, so it must be the food.'”
Other fans were quick to make their own jokes about the star’s response, with a second account writing: “Gordon Ramsay – where the food is judged, and so are you.” A third added: “I know she regrets letting him into her limited comments.”
Some accounts were more forgiving towards Gordon’s cheeky dig, with one person clapping back at the original comment: “That’s – not it. She had a cooking show. This was about HER cooking. It’s a cute comment.” Another chimed in, saying: “Nah, I think he means since she had a cooking show and he was on it. That’s what he’s referring to!”
Selena set fans into a meltdown on Thursday (December 12) when she shared a carousel of snaps of the happy moment. Record producer Benny Blanco popped the question as the couple enjoyed a romantic evening picnic date, with Selena smiling from ear to ear as she showed off her glamorous ring for the camera.
Benny and Selena first met when they collaborated on songs together such as I Can’t Get Enough and Single Soon in 2019 and 2023 respectively. The pair announced their relationship soon after and the couple’s love for each other has continued to blossom ever since, with Benny describing his lover Selena as “the best, most genuine person” in an interview with actress Drew Barrymore on her show back in May.
“Everything is completely real,” he explained, “everyday when I wake up, I, like, walk by the mirror as I’m, like, walking to her and I ask myself, ‘How did I get here’. She’s one of the sweetest, one of the most charming, one of the most humble people I’ve ever met.”
