Hollyoaks fans are convinced they’ve worked out Carter Sherphard’s exit storyline.
The Hollyoaks High headmaster decided he was going to take pupil Lucas Hay (Oscar Curtis) to America to finish their “studies” in upcoming scenes. However, fans of the Channel 4 soap are aware that Carter has been conducting conversion therapy on the confused youngster for months.
With Pride well underway in the village, Carter ordered Lucas to return home to and obtain his passport and speak to no-one. Dillon Hay (Nathanial Dass) spotted Lucas leaving Weirside View with his passport in hand and chased after him.

The two ended up at the folly, with Dillon urging Lucas to open up and, after some convincing, Lucas did just that, revealing that Carter has been practising conversion therapy on him. Dillon was appalled and urged Lucas to see that he’d been manipulated by the head teacher, reiterating that there is nothing wrong with him or how he feels and that being gay is perfectly natural.
Lucas broke down in tears as everything that Dillon said went against what Carter had taught him and therefore he was left confused. Dillon explained that he fought his feelings for so long, knowing how much Lucas was struggling with his sexuality, before mustering up the courage to tell his best friend that he’s in love with him.
“Why are you saying that?|, exclaimed confused Lucas, who lashed out with his fists, attacking Dillon and leaving him unconscious on the floor. As the realisation of what he’d done set in, Lucas pleaded with Dillon to wake up, begging him to say all those things to him again before confessing his love for him. Dillon, however, remained motionless.
Utterly devastated by what had transpired, Lucas self-harmed but he soon became groggy, slowly losing consciousness. It came to light that his jacket was soaked with blood and, upon making such a realisation, he collapsed to the floor, right beside his beloved Dillon.
Carter got restrained by Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) and John Paul McQueen (James Sutton) as Dillon woke up to find Lucas passed out and called for help as he sobbed over his friend. Ste found an injured Lucas in the Folly. As the Pride festivities continued, Carter made an ill-placed broadcast but Kitty Draper (Iz Hesketh) intervened calling for inclusivity and love in front of his daughter Freya Calder (Ellie Henry)
He begs Freya to go to America. but John Paul finally confronted Carter in front of her and the police arrived and arrested Carter and a devastated Freya reveals she called them. Is this the end of Carter’s conversion therapy? One eagle-eyed fan on Reddit has pointed out that Carter’s death could have been hinted in a recent scene.
The viewer wrote: “John Paul’s ‘you can hurt yourself all you want’ comment to Carter is that foreshadowing Carter’s fate? Maybe reading too much into it but is that stuck out, I really wonder if Carter offs himself or tries too. Hence then John Paul feel guilt.” Another added: ” I hope not but it could be. It could also just be a statement of fact though, since JP thinks Carter is hurting himself by denying himself to be free/to love etc. (and he’s right ofc).” Fans will have to wait and see if Carter ends up leaving the village for good.
