I’m A Celeb favourite addresses voting row with one demand for show after Ant’s rant

EXCLUSIVE: A Place in the Sun star Scarlette Douglas, who was a campmate on the 2022 series of I’m A Celebrity, says the ITV show should shake up its voting system

Scarlette Douglas has a way for I’m A Celeb to freshen up its format.

McFly rocker Danny Jones has been crowned King of the Jungle for this year’s series of the ITV show after beating stiff competition in Coleen Rooney and Reverend Richard Coles. Scarlette, a campmate on the 2022 series, reckons Danny was an early favourite to win as he “had it from the start to the finish”.

“Whoever won this year would have been a worthy winner,” she told Sky Vegas and Daily Star. “It was such a great cast, and everyone was lovely, but Danny [Jones] just had it from the start to the finish! He always had his pizzazz and always had that energy.”

And the 37-year-old A Place in the Sun star has an idea for how ITV bosses could freshen up the voting system, which has come under fire from fans on more than one occasion this year. Even host Ant McPartlin grew frustrated when Dean McCullogh kept getting voted for the Bushtucker Trials.

Ant stressed it was nothing personal to Dean but he simply wanted other celebrities to get a go at the trials. He pleaded the public to vote for other campmates to change things up.

Scarlette believes there’s nothing you can do about the votes for for the trials as the public “vote for who they vote for”. “[The voting system] is what gets the audience in because they need to vote. If that is how the vote has gone, that is how the vote has gone [the same celebrities doing the trials].

“I quite like the fact that you vote for your favourite person because then, that way, you don’t feel as bad if you’ve been voted off. It’s not like the nation’s voted because they don’t like you. They voted because they maybe prefer someone over you – that’s who they know more.”

But she reckons the show should add a “surprise” new voting feature that allows the public to bring an eliminated celeb back into camp. She said: “When I was in there, I wanted there to be a vote where there’s a surprise and the audience get to vote for one person that’s been voted out, to come back in. I would like to see something like that happen.

Admitting she wished she could have returned to camp after being eliminated, she said: “Where you’ve got maybe three or four people left for the cyclone and all of a sudden, someone walks back into camp, because there’s been a vote where someone gets to return and fight for their place again. That might be unfair, but I wanted that because I wanted to be voted back in!

“I thought, ‘Surely they can just add something to it where we get voted back in and I can get back into camp’. Ultimately, it’s the decision of the audience and we need them to vote, and they vote for who they vote for.”

Some fans accused I’m A Celeb of being a “fix” after Danny was crowned winner. Many viewers believed they’d spotted a clue the rocker was going to win as he was getting more airtime than his fellow campmates before the final.
