Jeremy Clarkson’s The Farmer’s Dog pub opening causes chaos as 300 fans queue up

Jeremy Clarkson has opened the doors of his spanking new pub to the public for the very first time.

The boozer in Asthall, near Burford, Oxon, called The Farmer’s Dog, swung its doors open at the stroke of midday. And there were already about 300 fans queuing up.

The punters formed a tidy line that twisted through the car park and spilled into the massive beer garden, all eagerly waiting for Jeremy to declare it beer o’clock. Jezza appeared at the launch, grinning from ear to ear, and said to the thrilled crowd: “We’re open.”

He even flashed his mobile to prove punctuality, cheekily adding: “We’re also not late. Welcome everybody.” Clarkson wasn’t alone; he had his partner, Lisa Hogan, and the squad from his banger of a telly series, Clarkson’s Farm. This included the likes of Kaleb Cooper, Charlie Ireland, and Gerald Cooper.

At the front of this eager queue were fans Lauren Hanly and Blake Jones, who’d driven over from Gloucester, and joined the line before 8am. Ms Hanly said: “We got here just before 8am.

“We were surprised to be at the front. We thought it would be busier, earlier but then the gates weren’t opening until 7.30am. We have looked at the menu, but we are not sure what we will go for yet. I think it depends on how many pints I have.

“Having Jeremy Clarkson’s name on it, it is always going to do well. It is a destination site and people will come from all over, as well as the local community. We went to the Diddly Squat farm shop and the Hawkstone brewery and Jeremy Clarkson was there filming.”

Her pal Mr Jones added: “We did think about queuing overnight. We left about 7.30am and there were no queues or traffic and we went straight in.”

Clarkson had previously revealed that he had paid “less than £1 million” for the joint, which was formerly known as The Windmill. Speaking outside the venue today, he said: “I’m not very good at business plans and I haven’t done one.

“I do know this. If I take one of our pigs and we slaughter it and butcher it and we turn it into sausages and we sell it here, it costs us 74p. If I buy imported pig meat it is 18p. So, something is wrong with the food system in this country.

“If everyone does it, if all the farmers get together and buy a pub as you can get a pub for chicken feed these days it might work. If this works, it is a co-operative of farmers we have formed, it might work, it might not, I’m the trailblazer. At least Amazon pay me to find out..”
