Liam Payne’s ex-fiancée Maya Henry breaks silence with touching ‘thankful’ post

Liam Payne’s former fiancée Maya Henry has spoken out for the first time since his tragic death. Liam and Maya, who started dating in 2019 and got engaged the following year, called it quits in May 2022.

On Thanksgiving Thursday, Maya took to Instagram with a poignant message of gratitude. She shared: “Happy Thanksgiving. Grateful for family, friends and God,” alongside a photo of a festive meal.

Liam sadly passed away on October 16, 2024, after a fatal fall from the third floor of an Argentinian hotel where he had been on holiday with girlfriend Kate Cassidy. Liam’s funeral took place last week, with all four surviving members of One Direction in attendance.

Since the One Direction singer’s untimely passing, three individuals have been charged. An autopsy concluded Liam succumbed to multiple injuries causing “internal and external haemorrhage”, reports the Mirror.

Toxicology screenings indicated the presence of anti-depressants and cocaine — substances he was believed to have purged from his system prior to the incident. It is alleged that Class A drugs were brought into his room concealed inside a Dove soap box; a claim seemingly supported by hotel employees who confirmed that only staff have access to soap supplies.

Eyewitness accounts, along with a police report, suggest that Liam may have been desperately trying to escape via his hotel room balcony before his death. Police found a bag on him within the hotel courtyard, lending credence to the theory that he was attempting to vacate his room in haste.

Maya has been on the receiving end of some nasty online trolling after the unfortunate death of Liam. Before Liam sadly passed away, Maya shared some details about Liam’s conduct while they were together, igniting fury amongst fans, especially in light of his passing.

The cruelty didn’t stop there, with many people dropping harsh comments under Maya’s last social media upload before Liam’s death, where she was promoting her debut novel, Looking Forward. The book narrates an art-meets-reality tale of a young woman who finds herself entangled in a romance with a pop star.

Prior to Liam’s untimely death, Maya felt issued a cease and desist to Liam, alleging he was bombarding her with messages from various iCloud accounts.

This week, a sea of Liam’s supporters rallied behind a petition for a statue or mural to be established as a memorial for the late singer in his birthplace of Wolverhampton – a place still home to his parents Karen and Geoff. The Change.org petition, which has attracted around 6,000 signatures so far from sympathisers worldwide, states: “The recent passing of Liam Payne has touched the hearts of many, not just the unbreakable community of One Direction fans, but people worldwide.
