Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall makes brutal dig at Simon Cowell in debut solo track

Little Mix legend Jade Thirlwall has blasted Simon Cowell in her debut solo single.

The Geordie lass, 31, was the last of the former X Factor-winning girl group to release music under her own name. Following the disbandment of the band in December 2021, the girls all set out for world domination in their solo work, with each member scoring hit after hit.

Now Jade is getting in on the action as she releases her first solo music video for her track Angel of My Dreams. Making up her first solo single, the singer has been quick to sprinkle in some revelations from her time in the chart-topping girl group.

And it seems that Jade has some unfinished business with former manager Simon Cowell after she dissed him in the track. In the song, Jade sings: “Sold my soul to a psycho,” a reference to Simon’s record label SyCo, which the troupe were under until 2018.

The record label soon went bust following the end of the show, and in the new video for the track – it seems Jade has taken aim at Simon once again. The music video, which was filmed in London back in April, sees Jade as a young girl trying to find her claim to fame.

In the clip, the young Jade runs into a mysterious looming figure, smoking a cigar as he control the music industry around her. Fans have already made the connection that Jade is referring to Simon in the video, after she was hand-picked to form a band alongside Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson and Leigh-Anne Pinnock back in 2011.

When the group first got together after winning the show, the girls and Simon had a healthy working relationship. However, things soon turned sour when the group demanded answers from Simon in a strongly-worded email about their writing credits.

Things soon blew up for the band, after Simon cut ties with their management company Modest in 2018. The fallout saw the girls move their rights to RCA Records, who released their fifth studio album at the time.

Jade’s new single and video also provides a nod to the band’s gagging order on female empowerment, after she explained in an interview that the girls were stopped from promoting positive messages for girls. Speaking to the Sun about the issue, Jade said that the record label change had “really f***ed us over”.

She added: “It was harder to put all our creativity out there in the way we would have liked. The LM5 album was very heavy on women’s rights and our experiences in the industry.”

Sharing a message to her fans the moment the song was released, Jade sain in a post on Instagram: “This song means everything to me – my love/hate letter to the music industry, telling my story from the beginning of my journey to now. It’s the perfect introduction and launch into my world as a solo artist so buckle the f**k up!”
