Lorraine Kelly ‘replaced’ by This Morning star in huge shake-up after BAFTAs backlash

Lorraine Kelly was replaced by her ITV co-star at the start of her show.

The 64-year-old presenter and national treasure won the BAFTA Special Award at this year’s BAFTA TV Awards, which took place on Sunday (May 12) at the Royal Festival Hall in London. But she probably scared viewers for a minute when she didn’t open her show on Monday.

Perhaps fans feared she’d partied too hard at the BAFTAs after-party and been forced to skip her show and rest up at home instead. It was actually This Morning host Ben Shephard who kicked off the show, stepping into Lorraine’s hosting role for a few minutes.

But it was only so that Lorraine could be congratulated by her ITV team on her outstanding achievement award. Ben, who now hosts This Morning with Cat Deeley, appeared in a kilt as a tribute to Lorraine’s Scottish heritage.

Lorraine was applauded by her crew as she stepped into the studio, which was filled with confetti. Spotting Ben’s Scottish attire, she cried: “Ben Shephard in a kilt! You look so beautiful”.

He replied: “Congratulations. I don’t get my knees out for just anyone, Lorraine”. She said: “You don’t, but you look fabulous.”

Ben quizzed her about the ceremony, during which Lorraine admitted she felt ‘anxious’ on the red carpet. She also revealed she ditched her bra on the red carpet as her dress was supportive enough.

It comes after Lorraine’s BAFTAs win sparked a backlash among viewers during the ceremony. Some viewers couldn’t help joke about the presenter’s frequent absences from her ITV show, which often mean Christine Lampard or Ranvir Singh step in.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan penned: “Surprised Lorraine didn’t send someone else to pick up her award.” Another added: “Lorraine should have thanked Christine & Ranvir for presenting her show when she couldn’t be a***d.” A third person said: “Surely Christine Lampard and Ranvir Singh deserve a third each of Lorraine Kelly’s award.”

Since the start of the year, a tongue-in-cheek X, formerly known as Twitter, account has emerged tracking when Lorraine is and isn’t hosting her programme. Named Where is Lorraine?, the social media profile posts every day whether or not the presenter, 64, is hosting Lorraine, which airs weekdays every weekday from 9am before This Morning.

The bio on the account reads: “Keeping track of when the actress Lorraine Kelly decides to host her own show.” And they have been committed with the latest post on Friday (May 10) reading: “Lorraine Kelly did not host her own show this morning, with Christine Lampard stepping in. #Lorraine has hosted 63 episodes out of 94 (67%) this year. Christine has hosted 19 episodes, Ranvir Singh has hosted 11 and Louise Minchin has hosted 1.”
