Saturday Kitchen gets ‘weird’ as Matt Tebbutt reprimands guest over ‘daddy’ comment

Saturday Kitchen’s Matt Tebbutt had to step in with a cheeky warning after his guest dropped a “daddy” bomb live on air.

The telly chef was left blushing on the Saturday (September 14) show when he had to tell off one of his guests just minutes into the programme. The episode saw Matt joined by culinary legends Rick Stein and Ching-He Huang, alongside special guests Richard Ayoade, Jaega Wise, and drinks connoisseur Olly Smith, who was on hand to share his knowledge.

But things took an unexpected turn right from the get-go, with Matt confessing that the show had “gone in a direction I didn’t expect already” after comedian Richard made a quip about something that happened before they were on air. Richard’s banter led him to ask Matt for a “breakthrough” on any personal issues, prompting Olly to pipe up with: “I would love to Daddy!”

Caught off guard by the remark, Matt immediately shut it down, exclaiming: “Don’t call him daddy, that’s weird! That’s weird already,” clearly trying to keep the show on track, reports the Express.

Olly, however, couldn’t resist doubling down, declaring Richard his “new daddy”, leaving Matt visibly squirming. As the studio erupted with laughter, Jaega reminded Matt of his earlier words: “Matt, you did say anything could happen didn’t you at the beginning of the show.”

With a nod to the odd daddy moment, Matt responded: “Not expecting you to be called ‘daddy’ at this time of the morning!”

Fans were in hysterics as things took a hilarious turn. They dashed to Twitter to share their thoughtsand couldn’t get enough of Richard’s comedic genius.

A telly lover tweeted: “Great guests this morning.” One chuffed fan posted: “Pay Richard Ayoade double his fee already.”

Another viewer who was clearly tickled noted: “Never really come across Richard Ayaode before as tend not to watch mainstream TV but between bouts of working on my day off he is a welcome distraction. Very amusing.”

The news comes as Richard recently signed a deal for three books with Faber and Faber, where he’ll chat about his mad love for flicks and the hilariously absurd bits of life. Chatting up about his latest venture, funny man Ayoade quipped: “Faber and Faber has long been one of the most respected and prestigious publishing houses in the country. It is with great pleasure that I can be present at the start of its decline.”

Saturday Kitchen airs Saturdays from 10am on BBC One.
