The man behind Britain’s Got Talent has reportedly signed a deal with Box To Box Films, who made the slick Netflix show Formula 1: Drive To Survive, to bring his new vision to life.
A source told The Sun: “Simon is preparing to sign a huge deal with Netflix to find the world’s next biggest boy band. He is working with the team behind Drive To Survive on the show and wanted to get it on a streamer because it fits the audience better.
The source continued: “Simon knew The X Factor had grown tired, so he wanted to do something that looked completely fresh and new. He is renowned for spotting talent, and One Direction’s success came off the back of him putting them together.
“Simon wants to replicate this and find a group that can reach the heights One Direction did. Filming for the show has already started in the UK, and he is so excited about what’s to come.”
Simon’s pitch instantly caught fire, with Apple and Amazon both bidding for the rights, but ultimately, it was Netflix that secured TV’s harshest judge’s signature. Despite spending over two decades in the public eye, Simon is a long way from done with the entertainment industry.
He explained: “I have ideas. I’d like to do more mentoring because I get frustrated with people bringing me the same thing. There’s a lot of creativity in the world right now, it’s like everyone is auditioning, and if I can do something to help, then I get a buzz out of that.
“We just need to get rid of the formats and rules – and being in one country. We don’t have to be boxed in, with projects like this, we can make music globally.”
