Strictly star’s heartfelt confession about BBC pro as she was ‘never going to win’

Sara Davies has lifted the lid on her experience on Strictly Come Dancing.

The 40-year-old Dragon’s Den star competed on the BBC show in 2021 and was partnered with Aljaž Škorjanec, 34. The businesswoman declared she was “never a contender” to win the show but appreciated all of the help and effort Aljaž gave to her.

Sara spoke exclusively to the Daily Star, after her new Avon UK appointment. Talking about her partnership with the BBC pro, she exclusively said: “As a trainer and mentor, he was absolutely off the chart.

“I think the reason I had such a phenomenal experience is because his whole raison d’etre on the show was me having an amazing time. I felt I was never going to be a contender to get to the final or the semis.

“I just wanted to make the most of the time that I had. So he put all of his energy into making sure I enjoyed every minute. I loved all the time that we had in the rehearsal room, and because we were up North, and I had to fit around my schedule, we had to work really funny hours.

“Whatever I needed, he used to be there with a big smile on his face ready for a cup of coffee at six o’clock on a morning when we got going. It was just fabulous. It was honestly one of the happiest times of my life.”

Strictly has suffered a huge complaints scandal following allegations of misconduct against its BBC professionals. An investigation has been launched by the BBC into the claims.

We also spoke the BBC star about her new appointment at Avon, as she was branded the cosmetics brand’s first Chief Inspiration Officer. Sara added: “It’s a such a great opportunity to work with new and existing Avon Reps who have the hunger to build and run their own business, on their own terms.

“I’m looking forward to continuing to share my passion for entrepreneurship. And as part of the role, I’m mentoring Avon Reps and offering tailored advice on how to be their own boss, grow their businesses and also lead a team. I’ve already met and worked with lots of Avon Reps and Leaders across the UK. I’m honestly so inspired and impressed by their smart thinking and perseverance – so many are building talented teams with some earning six-figure salaries.”
